Where you fit in

Quality seismic remains a critical foundation for robust subsurface descriptions. As an influential expert you will advise and support subsurface teams with the application of competitive processing and imaging technology to gain differentiating insights. This includes working closely with internal technology development and rapid deployment teams, external service providers and C&P to ensure we extract maximum value from our seismic investments.

You will report to the Team Lead DW Exploration Imaging, GOM Central & West in Geophysics West and you will be part of a team responsible for effective scoping and delivery of seismic processing products and services to support the Upstream Business in the Western Hemisphere.

The goal is to maximize business impact by on-time delivery of high-quality seismic technologies and products to asset teams, will be achieved via effective communication with asset to truly understand their business objectives and then providing fit for purpose seismic processing solutions to meet the business needs.

The seismic processing department will contain 4 teams focused on Growth, US GOM (2) and US/Brazil Development and will interface closely with Rapid Technology Deployment, Geo-Operations, and Vendor Relations teams in Geophysics West.

These teams deliver on a range of project types.

  • Deep water marine, OBN, WAZ or NAZ focused on either exploration or development objectives.
  • Dedicated 4D projects supporting development.
  • Special studies and focused technology deployment efforts.
  • Seismic projects supporting drilling.
  • Survey design, DAS, VSP, 2D, Land, etc.

What is the role

As a Processing Geophysicist, you will plan, lead, and execute internal seismic processing projects, working closely with and/or being part of natural subsurface teams.

More specifically:

  • Maintain confidentiality appropriate to play/project
  • Mentor and coach less experienced team members
  • Disseminate knowledge via best practice work processes, After Action Reviews, and publication of internal / external technical reports
  • Evaluate and deploy new technology with strong focus on early value generation and business impact
  • Effective collaboration with seismic operations, QI and seismic interpretation to ensure that acquired data and delivered products are compliant with requirements and business objectives
  • Deliver competitive, innovative, and differentiated processing and imaging solutions and drive deployment of advanced proprietary and external processing and imaging technologies
  • Drive quality culture in seismic processing through effective first line assurance
  • Analyze data and advise and influence integrated subsurface teams with clear recommendation on competitive scoping, prioritization, planning and application of differentiated proprietary and external (re-)processing and imaging technology
  • Contribute actively and participate in HSSE activities, enabling safe delivery of departmental goals

What we need from you

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Geophysics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field is required
  • Good communication and collaboration skills and be able to interface with staff and clients of diverse backgrounds. Virtual working skills are essential
  • Ability to work and flourish in an ambiguous environment, one in which there will often be no definitive right or wrong answers, only choices
  • Experience with FWI Velocity Model Building, Novel Imaging technologies, 4D processing and Machine Learning skills are a plus
  • Passionate and proactively assisting teams in meeting business goals and objectives.
  • Project and time management skills – able manage own time and to manage projects under cost and timeline constraints
  • Be able to seek out expert advice when necessary and implement new technologies or workflows
  • Skill in Processing and Imaging with hands on knowledge of proprietary tools and workflows, complemented with knowledge of external providers, QI and Seismic Interpretation
  • Candidate must have minimum of 3 (three) years working experience in any work-related industry
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
