Process Metallurgist Jobs

The Process Metallurgist is responsible for a wide variety of activities and procedures throughout our production process. This position is part of a team tasked with the goal of maximizing safety, quality, and productivity at the Sinton location.

• Communicate results and suggestions to operations for continuous improvement
• Assist and advise departmental metallurgists on alloy/process design
• Analyze and assess new and existing products for metallurgical conformity to customer requirements
• Assist and advise departmental metallurgists on cost and production optimization of existing products
• Support safety initiatives throughout the mill
• Assist product non-conformance analyses with technical service colleagues
• Support product trials at customer production units
• Work with customers on cost savings initiatives
• Support mill production trials with departmental metallurgists
• Participate in projects pertinent to new products, productivity & continuous improvement
• Develop and disseminate metallurgical analysis knowledge withing metallurgical laboratories

Required Education & Experience

• Excellent and proven problem-solving skills
• 4-year Material Science/Metallurgical Engineering Degree
• Capability to prioritize and multi-task
• Data analysis & management skills (SQL, Access, MS Office, SPC, MiniTab, etc.)
• Excellent technical communication skills
• Self-motivated with strong orientation for continuous improvement and innovation

Preferred Education & Experience

• Graduate Degree in Materials Science/Metallurgical Engineering
• Experience in steel product development, rolling and/or coating operation
• Knowledge of ASTM, SAE, ISO, IATF, and selected customer standards
