Community. Innovation. Partnership.
These are our core values. We weave them deeply into the fabric of our products. We’re a product-driven e-commerce company applying web3 and AI principles to build technology that makes shopping easier, more community-driven, and more rewarding.
At Demand.io (https://demand.io), our mission is to help people find, discover, compare, and shop the things they’ll love. We own and operate leading properties such as SimplyCodes (simplycodes.com), the first truly community-powered couponing utility, driven by community and blockchain, Knoji (knoji.com), our popular legacy shopping discussion platform undergoing a re-imagination as a decentralized shopping community with shared incentives, as well as several yet-to-be-announced products leveraging AI and web3 to deliver the next generation of shopping services (ask us about it in the interview!)
We’re looking for a passionate, talented, artistic yet analytical Principal Product Designer to join us as our head of design reporting to the VP of Product. This will be a crucial lead design role as you’ll set the direction, vision and lead execution for UI / UX design across our portfolio of apps and new services in incubation. In this role, you’ll face a broad range of strategic design challenges spanning tokenized community design, gamification, crowdsourcing, digital asset e-commerce and social shopping patterns across web, mobile, extension and voice interaction points. You’ll have significant autonomy to ideate and create and deliver end-to-end design frameworks and systems to solve high-level, strategic user problems and product goals.
Here's the skinny on us -- We’re a lean team of passionate technologists and product leaders working as a close-knit group to build new, innovative services that make everyday shopping tasks easier for consumers. With 60 employees worldwide and a small senior leadership team based at our headquarters in West LA, we operate a network of apps that serve millions of users and drive over a billion dollars of e-commerce transaction volume annually. We run as an equity partnership, offering outsize compensation packages through profit-sharing to senior management. Creating strongly aligned incentives for our employees, stakeholders and communities has been critical to our success - it’s part of our DNA.
We’re seeking a local candidate in the LA area who can commute to our new West LA (Brentwood) creative space location. We lean towards working in-office due to high collaboration needs, but embrace overall flexibility in our schedules and limited hybrid work. Relocation is available for this role as needed.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Seek the voice of our end customers at every turn through continuous research and testing, informing the product roadmap.
- Develop and guide design standards for overall experience — far beyond visual — and collaborate with engineering to apply these at scale.
- Design new product concepts and rapidly prototype to field test with end users. Set the bar high for design quality while helping the product team ship features with pace.
- Contribute to and maintain our design system in an effort to influence quality and efficiency of our product development.
- Lead design from discovery to implementation across key problem spaces for our different apps (AI-enabled e-commerce, creator tools, gamified experiences amplified by blockchain, cross-platform shopping utilities spanning web to mobile app to browser extension to chat / conversational).
- Transform complex product challenges into well-articulated, intuitive user journeys that shape a clear path for our users to their goals.
- Lead design strategy, vision and execution for products running at scale such as SimplyCodes and Knoji. You'll conduct design inception exercises and prototype / iterate greenfield concepts such as Insight.ai and Favely.
- Build a deep understanding of our different properties and their respective customers, tailoring the brand voice and experience to each.
- Lead design sprints to generate diverse ideas from stakeholders and expedite decision making.
We’re excited about you because…
- UX writing and/or interaction design experience a plus but not required.
- Outstanding UX capabilities and strong visual design competency working in mobile-centric environments.
- Self-starter attitude with ambition to grow. Looking for an environment where you can do your best work and be inspired by those around you.
- 7+ years of experience as a product or experience designer. Design leadership experience for major, complex product launches is a strong plus.
- A track record of shipping phenomenal consumer-facing experiences → extending across different platforms including web, iOS, Android and browser extensions.
- You have experience with delivering 0-1 products from concept stages to launch.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to blend user, business and technical considerations into comprehensive design solutions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills when communicating design to both technical and non-technical team members.
About the job
- Next-generation office campus with ideation, brainstorming and recreation facilities and a dedicated product design studio and a creator studio / filming space. Exquisite design with sweeping views of the ocean to downtown LA.
- 401K
- Flexible, high trust work culture. Unlimited PTO.
- Regular team building events and activities.
- Annual compensation: ~$275K, includes base and monthly profit-sharing (~$250K base plus ~$25K profit-sharing bonus in first year with annual increases). This Principal role can adjust to Staff level depending on LOE and will operate as our Head of Design.
- Eligibility for our Equity Partners program, offering significantly above-market compensation for our strongest performers.
- Comprehensive health coverage (executive PPO, HMO options), dental, vision coverage, paid 100% for all your dependents.
- Sponsorship for all ongoing education, courses, books and professional certifications.
- All meals provided free daily, fully stocked kitchen with free food, snacks, coffee and drinks.
- Stock options: 0.20% to 0.40% initial grant
