Primary Purpose


Reporting to the Assistant Treasurer, the Corporate Finance department is responsible for the planning, execution, reporting, and back-office management of long-term debt, equity, and derivatives transactions for Sempra and its domestic and foreign affiliates. The group represents the eyes and ears of the capital markets for the organization and works closely with multiple groups to support market-based analysis, including reviewing strategic investments and decisions to determine impact on balance sheet and credit. The group also manages rating-agency relationships for Sempra and its U.S. rated affiliates. The Principal Financial analyst reports to the Corporate Finance Manager and supports the group's activities by carrying out a diverse set of analytical activities and interacting with internal groups and outside advisors. The primary responsibilities of this position are to support Treasury across multiple functions with analysis, financial reporting, capital markets and derivatives analysis and execution, presentation materials preparation, and research. While covering a broad scope of activities, the Principal Financial Analyst will deliver results to multiple internal and external stakeholders for highly-visible projects. This position provides direction to Analysts within the department.


Duties And Responsibilities


Transaction Management


  • Leads the analysis, pricing, and execution of various financial transactions, including long-term debt, equity, and interest rate and foreign exchange hedging.


Financial Instrument Analysis


  • Conducts analysis of various financing and/or hedging proposals from banks and other advisors/investors and summarize for Corporate Finance Management. Works with Corporate Accounting to determine the proper application of GAAP to novel financing structures and hedging approaches.


Financial Reporting


  • Manages recurring financial reporting and analyses to internal and external stakeholders for debt, equity and derivatives transactions, including various schedules and analyses for quarterly 10-Q and annual 10-K reporting.


Special Projects


  • Designs and develops high quality presentation materials for internal and external purposes, including for non-deal roadshows, banker conferences, market updates, and other capital structure or Treasury topics. Serves as the source for answers to questions regarding underlying assumptions, market data, and strategy. Responds to ad hoc data-research and analysis requests from executives and business units, including those associated with regulatory proceedings.


Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties)


Qualifications


Education


  • Master's degree in business administration, finance and accounting, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training, required.


Experience


  • Experience with multinational businesses a plus.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably within a corporate finance, consulting, or banking environment and at a Fortune 500 Company with multiple business units, required.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment.  Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.


Skills And Abilities


  • Demonstrable knowledge of financial and economic theory, required.
  • Quick learner and detailed oriented.
  • Strong writing and communications skills.
  • Working knowledge of financial statements.
  • Excel modeling skills; MS Powerpoint presentation capability; Bloomberg functional.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of capital markets.
  • Highly organized team player – can easily respond to changes in work scope / deadlines as corporate priorities shift.


Licenses and Certifications


  • Professional certification (CFA, CPA, CTP). Preferred
