Summary
The Principal Engineer - Plant Systems Integration demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of Plant Systems Engineering. Integrates and develops plant systems engineering processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within integrated nuclear plant design.Role Responsibilities
- Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
- Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Provide technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced engineers, specialists, technicians and co-ops.
- Provide technical consultation on internal and external hazard mitigation, plant safety requirements and features, and product cost optimization throughout the business.
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in advanced nuclear plant design and licensing in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range nuclear power plant integrated designs leveraging existing plant features.
- Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in an engineering capacity
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
Desired Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated high energy and the ability to energize others.
- Knowledge of USNRC LMP licensing requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and apply plant-level safety assessment frameworks and defense-in-depth concepts strongly desired.
- Experience with SFR technology and reactor internals.
- Relocation to Wilmington, NC strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and optimize modern plant design and design processes to meet project economic objectives strongly desired.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team of highly experienced engineers performing complex engineering activities.
- Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in nuclear plant systems engineering or safety analyses, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within integrated nuclear plant design.
- Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business.
- Problem analysis and resolution skills.
- High performing employee with demonstrated ability to deliver results while exhibiting behaviors that promote strong team performance.
The salary range for this position is $124K – 208K USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for variable incentive compensation.
