JOB SUMMARY

The Plant Engineer is responsible for working closely with the management team to maintain plant operations and to implement system improvements. The Plant Engineer increases efficiencies of plant operations, maintains plant run time, implements system improvements, maintenance reliability, troubleshoots process problems, and considers cost factors.  POET bioprocessing facilities operate on a 24 hour continuous schedule; the Plant Engineer must be available as needed.

DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)...

• Facilitate communication between departments.
• Strive for efficiency in plant operations and minimize plant downtime.
• Assist with facility shutdown planning and execution with the management team.
• Ensure that all plant policies are implemented and followed.
• Assist with creating annual strategic plan initiatives for the department.
• Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.
• Identify opportunities for plant improvements and works with POET Biopfocessing to implement continuous improvement projects.
• Work with Operations Engineering Manager and Optimization support from POET Bioprocessing on operational/troubleshooting issues.
• Create capital request justifications for plant management.
• Develop and utilize historical database reports
• Write and coordinate procedures, and communicate to shift supervisors as necessary.
• Complete and present data analysis of process information: create associated action plans and identify optimization needs.
• Ensure that all city, county, state and federal regulations are being met at all times.
• Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
• Create and analyze production performance numbers for plant management and POET Bioprocessing.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

• Prior operations and maintenance management experience preferred.
• Experience in an operating processing plant environment such as grain processing or chemical processing beneficial.
• Prior project management experience preferred.
• You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.
• Bachelor’s degree or greater in engineering required; chemical engineering degree preferred.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Working at heights, in confined spaces and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
• Opening valves.
• Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
• Using hand and power tools.

• The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
• Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
• Standing for extended periods of time.
• Specific physical requirements may include:
  • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
  • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
  • Opening valves.
  • Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour.
  • Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
  • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
