Job Description

USC’s School of Cinematic Arts is seeking a Post Production Manager to join its Digital Media & Technology group. The School of Cinematic Arts is the premier school for the study of cinematic arts and works on the cutting edge of technology in all aspects of media production.

The Post Production Manager will have hands-on experience supporting classes and productions in the school’s editing, color grading, and mixing facilities, as well as supervising the production sound equipment center. Mastery of post-production workflows is a must.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting and selecting student assistants assigned to classes.
  • Prioritizing, booking, and staffing facilities to make sure classes and projects get through the post-production pipeline successfully.
  • Supervising staff that support Avid Media Composer, Pro Tools, edit labs, color grading suites, mixing stages, and sound equipment checkout.
  • Providing guidance and direction to faculty, staff, and student workers.
  • Scheduling mixes and hiring mixers.
  • Overseeing the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of specialized and/or state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
  • Creating procedures and documentation.
  • Greenlight meetings.
  • Managing budget for equipment, student workers, and mixers.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Managing staff that ships and receives 35mm film for processing.
  • Qualifying students for advanced facility and equipment usage.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree, or combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

5 years of experience in post-production

Knowledge of and experience supporting picture and sound workflows. Leadership experience working with a team to deliver film or television projects through the post-production pipeline.

Preferred Qualifications:

10 years experience as a post production producer or supervisor

The salary range for this position is $92K - $105K. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
