Are you the next HCI Project Officer for Western Sydney?


Are you passionate about working with early childhood education and care services, schools and other key childhood settings? Do you want to make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of children and families in western Sydney?


The WSLHD Health Promotion is seeking 2 Project Officers to support the implementation of our early years and school age portfolio.


These are full time permanent positions – 1 x Early Years and 1 x School Years project officer roles.

We are looking for a professional with a health or related background who has:


  • A strong understanding of early childhood and school settings and the key issues that impact service delivery and family health behaviours
  • Knowledge of effective healthy eating and active living prevention strategies
  • High level written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to conduct public presentations and facilitate groups)
  • Population health project management skills
  • An understanding of the social determinants of health and service delivery impacts in relation to social disadvantage, Aboriginal and CALD communities·

Where you'll be working


Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is responsible for providing primary and secondary health care for people living in the Auburn, Blacktown, and The Hills Shire, Holroyd and Parramatta Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region. What You'll Be Doing


Improve the health of the people of Western Sydney by contributing to a program of work for an identified population health priority, in line with the Western Sydney Local Health District goals and principles.


The HCI Health Promotion Officer (HPO) will work within a team to implement components of the Healthy Children Initiative (including but not limited to Go4Fun, Munch & Move, Life Live Well @ School)) in a defined geographic area.


The position will be involved in all stages of planning, implementation, evaluation, reporting and ongoing management and sustainability of these programs to facilitate the adoption of Key Practices to achieve program Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

Essential Criteria


Qualification: Bachelor or higher degree in any of the following – Population Health, Health Promotion, Public Health, Education, or other relevant degree


Selection Criteria


  • Demonstrated experience in working as part of a team and developing and maintaining partnerships, and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills (including the ability to conduct public presentations and facilitate groups)
  • Knowledge, experience or understanding of key Early Years and/or School Years settings and the key issues that impact service delivery
  • Understanding of issues that impact on service delivery in relation to social disadvantage, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications at graduate level or above in: population health, health promotion, public health or other health related areas
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning, implementation, evaluation and dissemination of best practice interventions (especially in the area of childhood obesity prevention)
  • Demonstrated effective organisational skills, problem solving skills and computer skills
  • Current driver’s license valid within Australia
