The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a full-time opportunity for a Policy Analyst – Data Science & AI/ML. This position will contribute to the execution of NAMIC’s strategies in pursuit of objectives related to regulation of the insurance marketplace, analysis of legislative and regulatory policies at the state and federal level and at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and effectively advocate members’ interests through written communication and oral testimony. NAMIC has offices in Indianapolis, IN and Washington, DC, but remote work is available for this position.

Responsibilities for this position include, but aren’t limited to:
- Acts as a Subject Matter Expert and thought leader on legislative and regulatory developments at all levels of government.
- Serves as an integral part of the NAMIC Public Policy Team to ensure comprehensive issue coverage in conjunction with all NAMIC advocates.
- Develops position papers, testimony, issue briefs, and other advocacy communications on legislation/regulation.
- Sources and hosts speakers for compliance webinars and presentation of any in-person compliance-related educational programs for NAMIC members.
- Provides direct advocacy coverage for legislative/regulatory entities as needed.
- Identifies and develops emerging issues of priority to member companies and contributes to/leads NAMIC policy groups on issue development.
- Directly assists in the development and execution of the NAMIC compliance function strategic plan, including determining the optimal allocation and use of resources and NAMIC personnel.
- Leverages expertise in data science and data governance to participate and augment NAMIC objectives for member data centers and benchmarking.
- Assists with development of compliance content for website, including formal written compliance guides and other practical compliance resources.
- Establishes and maintains positive contacts with insurance regulators, including the NAIC, to advocate NAMIC’s strategic regulatory objectives.
- Manages diverse issue portfolios including, but not limited to, providing assistance and thought leadership on actuarial science, data science, risk-based pricing, bias testing, artificial intelligence, machine learning and associated regulatory frameworks.
- Serves as a liaison/teammate to the NAMIC Compliance team to create appropriate member collateral on topics of expertise as well as leveraging advocacy strategies to address regulatory overreach.
- Communicates effectively on issues through oral presentations, written articles, web content, or other relevant media.
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background and MVR check.
- Property/casualty compliance procedure experience preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working on substantive public policy issues pertaining to the insurance industry either within a state or federal legislature or agency, trade association, or company.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree; J.D., Masters in Business Administration, Masters in Data Science or equivalent preferred.
- Flexibility to travel on an “as needed” basis, up to about 15 percent of the time.
- Prior experience in advocacy before government organizations preferred.
- Experience in issue management pertaining to insurance underwriting required.
- Familiarity with the property/casualty insurance industry required.
