Job Description

Duties

As a Policy Advisor, you will:
  • Undertake, in his/her capacity as a close personal and confidential aide to the Director, a wide variety of special assignments.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the public housing and voucher programs, offering detailed knowledge of the intricacies of the program to the Director, Division Directors and staff to support program efforts and issues.
  • Review, analyze and make recommendations on legislative proposals from Congress, other HUD offices, and Federal agencies and organizations, and provide liaison and coordination to the Office of General Counsel on legislative matters.
  • Conduct significant research and analysis in order to provide expert recommendations to the Director in furthering the management and administration of public policy goals.

The official duty station for this position will be in Washington, District of Columbia. Failure to report to duty at this location may be grounds for a disciplinary action, including removal.

Key Requirements:

  • A one year probationary period may be required.

  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
  • A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience:

  • Developing affordable housing program policy.
  • Providing recommendations to affordable housing program goals; AND
  • Conducting studies to resolve affordable housing program problems; AND

Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume.
