Job Description
Responsibilities
TikTok is the leading destination for short-form mobile video. Our mission is to inspire creativity and bring joy. TikTok has global offices including Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Berlin, Dubai, Singapore, Jakarta, Seoul and Tokyo.
Why Join Us
At TikTok, our people are humble, intelligent, compassionate and creative. We create to inspire - for you, for us, and for more than 1 billion users on our platform. We lead with curiosity and aim for the highest, never shying away from taking calculated risks and embracing ambiguity as it comes. Here, the opportunities are limitless for those who dare to pursue bold ideas that exist just beyond the boundary of possibility. Join us and make impact happen with a career at TikTok.
About the Team:
We are looking for an intellectual property subject matter expert to support the public policy subject matter expert team made up of seasoned tech policy leaders from an array of disciplines. The team provides strategic advice to the business and anticipates policy trends and impacts. We also proactively drive thought leadership by seeking out new ideas to help the company lead the industry. You will focus on helping policymakers and external stakeholders understand TikTok's intellectual property positions and ecommerce business, and serve as a subject matter expert for the broader Americas public policy team, based in Washington, DC.
What you will do:
  • Maintain and develop a strong network of third-party public interest groups, industry associations and academics engaged in technology policy issues. Represent TikTok at high tech industry gatherings, trade associations and coalition meetings.
  • Advise the Americas public policy team on a broad range of monetization strategy and public policy issues associated with ecommerce as needed, such as issues relating to trade, tax, and intellectual property.
  • Proactively identify and address emerging and significant intellectual property public policy issues, as well as regulatory developments in the region, with the potential to impact the company and its products. Analyze and evaluate proposed legislation or regulations relating to ecommerce and related issues. Work with internal and external counsel and government affairs experts to stay ahead of and on top of evolving regulations and other legal requirements across the Americas.
  • Provide internal cross-functional public policy advice, including identifying potential risks and opportunities and strategizing solutions for new policies and products.
  • Advise cross-functional colleagues on intellectual property public policy trends in the Americas, including potential regulation or legislation relating to trademark or counterfeit issues, trade regulations, tax legislation, and online commerce.
  • Represent TikTok to elected officials and government agencies engaged in e-commerce policy making on issues of importance to our company and the people who use the service.
  • Analyze and explain TikTok's IP and e-commerce policies and features to external audiences while setting and maintaining a high ethical standard.
  • Ensure that Americas public policy external communications are accurate and comprehensible to a general audience. This requires the ability to precisely translate and clearly communicate complex topics into more relatable explanations.
Qualifications
  • Strong research and analysis abilities: the individual will need to take complex situations and effectively communicate their implications for the company, as well as defend priorities for the public policy function.
  • Experience analyzing and shaping intellectual property public policy at a tech company, trade association, law firm, think tank, or nonprofit.
  • Deep understanding of the key public policy issues that impact intellectual property and e-commerce.
  • Outstanding judgment, persuasive and advocacy skills, creativity, and the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and often uncertain environment. A problem-solver experienced at remaining focused and calm when problems come your way.
  • Experience working across multiple functions, influencing, and collaborating with others to successfully implement programs and initiatives; history of successful cross-functional team and leadership collaboration.
  • 8+ years dedicated professional experience with intellectual property experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on finding practical, implementable tools and operational solutions.
  • Self-motivated; can identify and complete work without being instructed.
