Police Officer 77320\ \ \ Job Responsibilities\ The duties and responsibilities described below are indicative of what the Police Officer may be asked to perform; other duties may be assigned.\ \ Initial Calls for Service:\ \ Initiates communication between victim, and accused with the department.\ Completes all necessary reports in a timely manner.\ Communicates with dispatch as to daily activity.\ Enforces traffic and parking regulations; directs traffic, and enforces speed regulations with the use of radar equipment.\ Inspects business and homes for security insufficiencies.\ Inspects taverns, business establishments and other places for signs of criminal activity.\ Investigates narcotic violations.\ Contributes to the daily operations of the department by attending shift briefings at the start of duty tour; and communicating with other department personnel regarding cases and previous daily activities.\ Frequents businesses, addresses citizens, various city organizations and various aged pupils, all the while promoting the departments community relations programs.\ Endorse and promote the Healthy Communities/Problem Solving/Community Oriented Policing philosophy within our organization and community.\ Crime Scenes:\ \ Conducts or coordinates investigative activities at crime scenes.\ Preserves the scene for integrity purposes.\ Conducts initial interviews of victims, witnesses, and/or suspects.\ Identifies, collects, and evaluates evidence.\ Records the scene for both investigative and prosecutorial purposes.\ Transports and records all physical evidence into safekeeping; safeguarding the chain of evidence.\ Follow-up Investigations:\ \ Locates and interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects.\ Generates or pursues investigative leads.\ Reviews reports, documents, files, and other data to evaluate criminal activity and identify perpetrators.\ Exercises the lawful use of arrest, force, search, and seizure powers.\ Accurately and thoroughly documents relevant evidentiary facts, occurrences, and activities.\ Works with the District Attorneys Office to obtain necessary subpoenas, warrants, and other legal process.\ Serves criminal process to include warrants and subpoenas.\ Promotes professional relationships within the department, City government, the community, and outside agencies in furtherance of the departments mission, goals, and objectives.\ Appears in criminal and on some occasions, civil court for testimony when subpoenas are issued.\ Performs surveillance duties as needed.\ Works with juvenile services in the enforcement of laws, which are violated by those individuals younger than 17 years of age to include proper agency direction and counseling.\ Administrative Duties:\ \ Acts as officer in charge of patrol in the absence of ranking supervisor.\ Requests and maintains maintenance of department issued equipment and gear.\ Maintains forms and documents inventory and control.\ Conducts research in specialized or new areas.\ \ \ Background requirements:\ Candidates must pass a drug screen and background check.
