Overview A Reserve Police Officer is a part-time police officer who works for a police department on an as-needed basis. Detailed Job Description A Reserve Police Officer is responsible for performing the same duties as a full-time police officer. Reserve officers may also be required to assist with crowd control, provide security at public events, and provide support to other law enforcement agencies. Job Skills Required Reserve Police Officers must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to think quickly and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations. They must also have a strong knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, as well as the ability to operate a variety of law enforcement equipment. Job Qualifications Reserve Police Officers must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. They must also have a high school diploma or GED, and must pass a background check and drug test. In some cases, applicants may be required to have prior law enforcement experience or a college degree. Job Knowledge Reserve Police Officers must have a thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, as well as the ability to interpret and apply them in a variety of situations. Job Experience Prior law enforcement experience is not always required for Reserve Police Officers, but it is highly recommended.
