There are multiple positions posted. These positions are located at the DPS Police Capitol Detail and DPS Police – State Facilities Security.


DPS DOES NOT ACCEPT TESTING EXEMPTIONS. YOU MUST HAVE A TEST SCORE.


Applicants must live within 75 miles of their assigned location. Applicants who do not meet the residency requirements will be rejected.


The locations are:


Capitol Detail and State Facilities Security - 1835 N. River Road Baton Rouge, LA 70802. POST certified applicants are preferred.


When you submit an application, you will be applying for all of these positions. If selected, you will be assigned to any of these locations based on the needs of the Department. During the interview process, you will indicate your preference of section; Commanders will consider this when making hiring recommendations. Typical job duties include:


Capitol Detail– Officers assigned to these duties conduct proactive police patrols of the State Capitol Complex and downtown Baton Rouge. Officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances, conduct proactive traffic and criminal enforcement, investigate crimes, and prevent and deter unlawful activity. In addition to their police duties, officers frequently act as ambassadors of the state as they interact with visitors to our great state.


State Facilities Security- Officers assigned to these duties provide police protection to thousands of state employees and visitors throughout Louisiana. These officers enforce state and local laws and ordinances, conduct frequent security patrols, investigate crimes, and prevent and deter unlawful activity.


Applicants must be able to qualify with firearms, complete advanced driver and weapons training, pass a thorough background investigation, and meet all annual training requirements. Non-POST certified applicants may be required to pass a physical assessment that consists of a timed 1.5 mile run (20 minute maximum time), push-ups (minimum of 10), and sit-ups (minimum of 10).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.


Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.


An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.


May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.


May be required to complete a Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) course.


May be required to qualify annually with a firearm.
