This position will be responsible for creating and maintaining GIS databases for District 58 of the Department of Transportation and Development. Tasks will include coordinating and assisting the survey team with the collection of high accuracy data, post processing of the spatial data, and updating the GIS databases with both spatial and non-spatial data. This position will also include utilizing published LIDAR data in conjunction with collected survey data to create digital terrain models to aid the District Design Section in creating a Stage 0 cost analysis for proposed construction projects. This position will report directly to the Surveyor Supervisor.


The incumbent will be required to have a special knowledge of Computer Aided Drawing software along with Geographic Information Systems software (ESRI, ArcGIS Pro preferred) and hardware. The incumbent will be required to possess a special knowledge or ability to learn modern survey techniques and instruments including Global Positioning Systems, Total Stations, and spatial data collection using Light Detection and Ranging.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


A baccalaureate degree with twelve semester hours in any combination of GIS or GIS-related courses such as remote sensing, cartography, spatial analysis, mapping science, civil surveying, photogrammetry, CADD (computer aided drafting and design) mapping, aerial photo interpretation, physical geography, web mapping, and/or computer science courses related to geographic information systems.


Substitutions


Six months of experience (including college undergraduate student work) in digital mapping technology such as GIS, computer cartography, civil CADD, or digital cadastral mapping will substitute for the required twelve semester hours of specialized course work only.


Two years of experience (including college undergraduate student work) in digital mapping technology such as GIS, computer cartography, civil CADD, or digital cadastral mapping will substitute for the required degree and the twelve semester hours of specialized course work.


Note


Civil CADD (Computer Aided Drafting and Design) is digital survey mapping for Civil Engineering functions.

Receives training in the use of satellite receivers and other technical GIS equipment.
