The incumbent of this position will be eligible for a 10% increase upon attainment of permanent status.

Preference may be given to candidates that have: Certified professional experience and knowledge of inspecting, testing and calibrating a variety of mechanical, electronic, and digital weighing systems with class one, two and three scales in Louisiana (dormant platform, static, in motion vehicle scales, rail scales), experience with driving and maintaining a large capacity scale test truck daily, Class B CDL license.

A baccalaureate degree with at least twelve semester hours in agribusiness, agricultural science, agronomy, animal science, biology, botany, chemistry, dairy science, entomology, environmental science, food science, forestry, geology, horticulture, physical science, physics, plant pathology, poultry science, soil science, veterinary science, wildlife and fisheries science, zoology, or any combination AND an additional twelve semester hours in accounting, agribusiness, agricultural science, agronomy, animal science, biology, botany, chemistry, dairy science, economics, education, entomology, environmental science, food science, forestry, geology, health sciences, horticulture, management, marketing, physical science, physics, plant pathology, poultry science, soil science, veterinary science, wildlife and fisheries science, zoology or any combination.


Substitution


Experience in inspecting or enforcing for compliance with agricultural laws, rules or regulations, or inspection and testing of weighing and measuring devices will substitute for the baccalaureate degree and specialized coursework on the basis of 30 semester hours with 6 semester hours of specialized coursework for one year of experience.

Examples of Work


Incumbent will perform inspection services for the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Office of Agro Consumer Services, Weights & Measures Division. The Weights and Measures Division regulates many aspects of commerce and trade in the state. The division ensures equity prevails in the marketplace for both buyers and sellers by inspecting over 100,000 commercial weighing, measuring, metering and barcode scanning devices. Heavy-duty inspectors ensure the accuracy of large scales that are used in transportation (trucks, railroad cars), industrial plants, and the sale of cattle and bulk items (fertilizer, feed). Supervision for this position is received from Agriculture Specialist District Supervisor.

Inspection of large capacity scales utilizing specialized trucks that carry several thousand pounds of weight. Involves traveling to various locations in a specified area and may involve operating trucks in confined areas. Requires removing weights from truck, placing on scale platforms, then placing weights back on trucks via hydraulic lift. Requires operating the Livestock Truck and knuckle boom to move weights on and off the truck and scales in confined areas. Requires operating a motorized weight cart to move weights on and off of livestock scales Requires investigating scale complaints. Requires utilizing specialized inspection and billing software to record inspection data, collect fees and transmit data to main office hub. Incumbent may also coordinate training of other Weights and Measures inspectors in their respective regions in the area of heavy, medium, and light duty scales.

Incumbent will be required to prepare timesheets, plan work schedules, coordinate inspection appointments, participate and attain credentials in both the LDAF and NCWM Training Programs, and prepare other miscellaneous paperwork.

Agricultural Inspector 3, Heavy Duty positions, will have supervisory duties for lower-level Agricultural Specialists as needed and directed by the District Supervisor. May be required to inspect small and medium capacity scales as needed.

Functional Requirements
