This position is for a Patrol Officer in University Police.The position is non-exempt under the provisions of the FLSA and may work rotating 12 hour shifts. This position is subject to overtime, working weekends, holidays, shift work, and 24 hour call. This position has a physical component which includes the ability to run, jump, stand for long periods, climb, crawl, carry, drag, work in all weather conditions, and change flat tires. This position requires the ability to shoot a gun with either hand. This position requires the ability to work in a collegial manner, displaying excellent customer service skills.


Applicants must have State Civil Service test scores for 2100-Protective Services Exam (PSE) by the close of this announcement in order to be considered for this vacancy. A newly promulgated SCS rule 22.8(e) is effective per HR Handbook update No. 2023-003. This new rule allows applicants who possess a Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification to be exempt from the PSE (Protective Services Exam).

The successful candidate must possessa valid Louisiana drivers license and must maintain qualification with firearms. An extensive background investigation will be performed on the final candidates to include pre-employment psychological examination and polygraph, DNA testing, Fingerprinting, Prior Employment History Verification, Drug Testing, Reference Check, Criminal and Misdemeanor records search, Basic Knowledge Test and Drivers License Records search.


Preference may be given as follows: Candidates who have a certificate of high school completion or the equivalent; Candidates who have continuing education beyond high school.

Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of appointment.
