Job Description
The Pharmacy Coordinator is responsible for pharmacy related inquiries from our members and providers. With a focus on effective medication management, and coordination of generic dispensing rate (GDR) improvement through brand to generic conversions based on health plan formulary. Serves as medical center’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all medication related questions. Including profile management at CareMax Pharmacy or external pharmacies, prescription deliveries, prior-authorizations, vacation and lost medication overrides, patient assistance programs and support placing OTC orders.


Resolves any patient related grievances and provides root cause analysis to Dispensary Supervisor.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Coordinate conversion of high-cost medications to preferred alternatives based on individual health plan formulary coverage.
  • Patient Education: Provide clear and concise information to patients regarding medication usage, potential side effects, and adherence strategies.
  • Support PBM audit requests
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize medication regimens and resolve any drug therapy-related issues.
  • Prescription Processing: Accurately and efficiently process prescription orders, including data entry, insurance verification, and medication refill requests.
  • Resolve all patient related issues/grievances with concern and empathy, respecting their confidentiality and privacy while communicating with them in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Pharmacy Coordinator will use compassion and empathy to earn patients’ and caregivers’ trust, persistence to support and advocate for them, and excellent communication skills to build impactful relationships.
  • Triage pharmacy requests and prescription transfers
  • Promote and contribute to a positive, problem-solving workplace culture.
  • Serve as a liaison for patients between CarMax Pharmacy and provider.
  • Prepare reports and provide to Dispensary Supervisor in timely manner.
  • Facilitate DME ordering: fulfilling all billing and processing requirements. Ensure patient understands how to properly use DME.
  • Insurance Coordination: Work closely with insurance providers to obtain prior authorizations, resolve coverage issues, and facilitate medication reimbursement for patients.
  • Compliance with all company policy, procedures, documentation requirements and requests
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Review quality and HEDIS reports to close gaps in adherence.
  • Submit refills request, deny duplicate requests and medication reconciliation.

  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized and have excellent prioritization skills.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in prescription processing and record keeping.
  • Basic knowledge in electronic health record software (NextGen) is preferred.
  • Patient relations experience.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Valid Registered Pharmacy Technician license in Florida required.
  • Must be patient in dealing with an elderly population and sympathetic to hearing or vision deficiencies.
  • Minimum two years (2) experience as a pharmacy technician, physician dispensary or pharmacy care coordinator experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work well under stressful conditions.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office
  • Familiar with pharmacy adjudication platforms
