Position: Payroll Specialist


Location: Near Chesterfield County Airport


Job Type: Contract to Hire position (Can be direct to hire for the right candidate)


Pay rate: $23.00 - $25.00/hr. (De

Qualdoc is currently looking for a payroll specialist for a role in North Chesterfield, VA. If you are looking for a great work environment with competitive pay and benefits, then you are encouraged to apply.


Basic Function:


  • Verifies receipt of data, seeks out details related to any payroll changes, implements authorized deductions, runs reports, and generates uploads as needed to various vendors and or agencies (401K, tax reporting, etc.)
  • Responsible for timely and accurate completion of assigned duties for the accomplishment of company-wide Payroll
  • Emphasizes employee safety and adherence to the Safety Program while carrying out job duties
Essential Functions:


  • Answers questions, resolves problems, makes adjustments in accordance with established procedures/processes and communicates/passes along information to appropriate parties
  • Acts as single point of contact for internal and external customers in order to accomplish Payroll function
  • Follows up and pursues related data/information on a proactive basis
  • Assists with fiscal year-end reconciliation and processing of W-2s
  • Responsible for the accomplishment of month-end closing assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ability to develop additional knowledge of Timberline/Vista in order to expand knowledge and job scope for future development
  • Seeks clarification and obtains missing information as necessary for timely and accurate payroll processing
  • Responsible for processing weekly disbursements for 401k and HSA Plans
  • Responsible for preparation of payroll, importing data for payroll, resolving discrepancies, managing changes, ensures compliance with court-ordered payroll matters (child support, garnishments, etc.)
  • Provides a high level of customer service to internal and external customers by prompt and thorough attention to detail in order to document/communicate/pass along information related to the accomplishment of the Payroll function
  • Interacts with all levels of team members in order to obtain information necessary for the accomplishment of payroll
  • Follows established policies and processes for data management including that found on: Timberline/Vista, Employee Navigator, etc
Required Travel:


  • As necessary for exposure to field-based operations, training/seminars and attending meetings
Required Skills and Experience:


  • Equivalent education and experience will be considered
  • Experience with Timberline/Vista preferred
  • Highly proficient in computer skills
  • Good driving record; must reflect a total accumulation of no more than five negative points within the past three years, or a major violation within the past three years
  • Experience managing multiple projects/jobs; excellent time and project management skills
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Associate's Degree and a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in the accomplishment of payroll
  • Experience in the construction industry preferred
  • Must project a positive and professional image to customers, co-workers, and the general public
  • Team player with the ability to participate in planning processes and work with others to meet goals and objectives
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to analyze situations, identify problems, exercise good judgment, and utilize creativity in problem-solving
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality as this position is responsible for and comes into contact with personal, confidential, and protected information on a daily basis
  • Strong organization and administration skills with detail orientation to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and maintain detailed, accurate records
  • Experience with Kronos UKG) is a plus
  • Knowledge of Prevailing wage and certified payroll is helpful

Physical Demands:


  • This position requires significant work at a desk but also requires walking, talking, and standing as needed to meet with employees, travel to various work sites, conduct meetings, etc
  • Ability to work well while under considerable stress/pressure
  • Works extended hours as workload dictates
  • Requires lifting up to 20 pounds (files/uniforms/etc.) and bending (most frequently related to filing)
