ProTech Services is seeking a (Remote) Payroll Specialist for large organization headquartered in Memphis, TN. This is contract to hire position. M-F, 8:00-5:00pm. Prefer CT timezone.
- Will need to use your personal computer starting out
- Must have Workday payroll processing experience.
- Must have strong Excel epxerinece
- Must have a quiet and private workspace
The payroll specialist will report to the Sr. Payroll Mgr. Candidate needs to have a great work ethic, strong attention to detail, solid payroll knowledge and payroll processing experience in Workday is a must.
Position Overview
Processes company's payroll and compiles payroll data to maintain accurate payroll records. Supports employees and managers on all aspects of payroll processes.
Responsibilities
1. Prepares payroll for execution, which involve calculating, balancing and reconciling payroll calculations, and resolving calculation errors. Reconciles payroll deposits, tax withholdings, wage garnishments, and voluntary deductions.
2. Calculates and processes federal, state and local tax withholdings as well as other deductions and imputes.
3. Verifies and reconciles payroll, employee benefits and related data for exempt and non-exempt payroll cycles. Audits payroll information for accuracy. Monitors system-generated and ad-hoc reports alerting to problems or errors.
4. Develops and analyzes payroll data reports as necessary. Processes and analyzes payroll for all pay groups including non-exempt and exempt employees.
5. Interprets, applies, communicates and enforces payroll policies and procedures. Maintains knowledge of rules and laws which govern the payroll administration practices.
6. Responds to payroll inquiries and resolves discrepancies as required. Provides high level customer service and problem resolution for tier 1 issues. Consults with and instructs managers and employees regarding payroll policies, garnishments and/or leaves of absence. Escalates issues in a timely manner to ensure quick resolution.
7. Performs actions necessary to track and determine regular and overtime pay, and factors commission-based income or bonuses into an employee's salary.
8. Reviews and processes payroll adjustments, including vacation, sick, and other time off and pay adjustments. Reconciles errors and maintains payroll records.
9. Ensures that payroll-related transactions are processed in compliance with external and internal policies.
10. Participates in testing and deployment of change and maintenance activities for payroll systems and processes as needed. Participates in problem solving and special projects within the payroll team.
Education and Experience Requirements
• High school diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
• 2-5 years of payroll experience required
• Experience with federal, state and local payroll taxes and reconciliation experience strongly preferred
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) credentials preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge of payroll policies and procedures as well as corresponding federal, state, and local regulations
• Computer skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Workday Experience is required.
• Attention to detail and accuracy with quantitative and qualitative data
• Written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal and external entities and present information
• Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
• Organizational and time management skills, including process orientation and punctuality for on-time attendance
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
