Healogics is the largest provider of advanced wound care services in the United States, treating more than 300,000 chronic wound patients annually across over 600 sites. With an aging society, obesity and diabetes on the rise, and an uptick in surgical procedures, the number of patients with non-healing wounds that would benefit from expert care is dramatically increasing. As a result, the company is working to provide our differentiated, quality outcomes to as many patients that would benefit through our out-patient clinic partnerships.


As the Director of Payroll, this person will be responsible for directing all activities related to payroll for a $400M+ multi state organization and coordinate the processing of the biweekly payroll for over 3000 employees. This position provides direction and leadership on all matters regarding the organization’s payroll activities, including strategic and tactical planning. The Director of Payroll provides the vision, strategic planning and coordination of payroll processes and systems to manage complex challenges while championing service excellence.


The Director of Payroll is responsible for all payroll and payroll tax related functions. This role must work closely with cross-functional departments and ensure best practices and delivery of administrative services including payroll and transaction processing according to state/ federal regulations and contractual agreements. This individual also will manage and direct a team to handle all payroll, benefit requests and questions with a high degree of quality and customer service.


All Healogics employees must perform their job responsibilities according to all Healogics policies, Hospital policies, as well as to accrediting organizations, federal and state regulation, and to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, as applicable.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities


  • Oversees the changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records
  • Manage a staff that administers payroll and answers payroll related questions for national workforce.
  • Designates a team member to address accounting transactions for posting
  • Supervises the preparation and issuance of pay checks
  • Monitor new labor trends, state, and federal labor and employment laws.
  • Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Oversees the compilation of payroll data such as hours worked, sales, taxes, insurance, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records
  • Assist IT and HR in managing the implementation and maintenance of payroll and payroll related systems.
  • Ensures compliance with all company policies, government regulations and reporting requirements and that payroll tax payments are in compliance
  • Communicate and ensure employees understand labor laws, regulations, and organizational policies so they can properly direct employee payroll requests or questions.
  • Develop and set requirements for process improvements as it relates to pay, bonus, benefit programs and related payroll processes. Partner with HRIS, Compensation and Benefit teams for the design, development, testing and implementation of processes and procedures identified. This includes, but is not limited to, the change control process with IT, upgrades and building Access databases.
  • Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.
  • Partner with Legal team and closely monitor any changes in contracts. Work with cross functional teams to ensure all payroll tables are properly updated and that staff are aware of any changes that might affect payroll administration or policy.
  • Process new deductions for garnishments, withholdings, liens, and other payroll related deductions.
  • Manages the team responsible for processing employee statements including earnings, deductions, etc.
  • Create training and development opportunities for management related to payroll, timekeeping policies, procedures and system usage
  • Support the implementation of payroll for newly acquired entities/companies for the Company
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Ensure ongoing quality control and auditing of system's calculations and act as and/or coordinate with the Company's System Administrator regarding scheduled upgrades and enhancements
  • Develop and implement all payroll internal controls, policies and procedures
  • Direct and establish work rules and monitor their application and enforcement to ensure fairness and consistency across the organization.
  • Work as a strategic business partner with Corporate HR, Medical Affairs, Compliance, and Legal departments to develop strategies related to the administration of payroll processes.
  • Prepare payroll related financial reports as requested by management
  • Responds to employee inquiries concerning pay, benefits, and use of timekeeping system


Required Education, Experience And Credentials


  • CPP certification preferred
  • Minimum seven (7) years in multistate and payroll supervisor/manager capacity with a focus inmulti-state tax experience along with local tax experience in a multi entity environment
  • Experience with implementing payroll and time & attendance systems a +
  • Accounting-related education and/or certifications preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years managing people or projects
