POSITION PURPOSE

The Payment Operations Assistant Manager will lead the ACH and Payment Operation teams with ACH origination and receiving, Remote Deposit Capture (RDC), electronic check clearing, transit items, wire transfers, and digital money movement (P2P), and item processing. This individual is responsible for using their knowledge of payments, the rules and regulations governing those channels, and software programs to help the business maximize operational productivity. The role includes collaborating with management and business partners to determine operational gaps, identifying business needs, and coordinating the implementation of new processes or update existing processes based on the needs which should result in measurable improvements to operational efficiency, risk reduction, and accuracy.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Management / Leadership (50%)

  • Lead assigned staff to drive optimal and measurable performance for all the payment channels.
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of the department’s fiscal budgets.
  • Lead, coach, coordinate, supervise and evaluate department personnel to ensure that services are delivered in accordance with SAFE’s brand promise and to regulatory standards.
  • Wires both incoming / outgoing in foreign and domestic currency
  • Returned checks / transit items / Inclearings
  • ACH receiving and originating
  • Federal Reserve Settlement
  • Act as a lead in operational backup for daily processing as requested.
  • Remote Deposit Capture (RDC)
  • Mailed payments and deposits
  • Manage employee timesheets, including reviewing for accuracy, inputting exceptions and approving for payroll while ensuring compliance with state-based policies.
  • Settlement Dispute Claim Processing
  • Item processing and adjustments
  • Responsible for regulatory settlement and daily operations in relation to the various payment networks including but not limited to:
    • ACH receiving and originating
    • Item processing and adjustments
    • Returned checks / transit items / Inclearings
    • Remote Deposit Capture (RDC)
    • Wires both incoming / outgoing in foreign and domestic currency
    • Settlement Dispute Claim Processing
    • Mailed payments and deposits
    • Federal Reserve Settlement
  • Write and conduct quarterly and annual performance evaluations, including setting short- and long-term goals as well as defining any required training and development plans. Coach and counsel subordinates, give positive reinforcement, recognize and reward staff when warranted. Perform disciplinary actions when applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Process Optimization (20%)

  • Work with cross functional teams to maintain and optimize processes for existing products and services, ensuring effective processes are established and internal control standards are maintained.
  • Improve training and operational procedures within SAFE’s payments business to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Analyze current operational processes and make recommendations for improvement. Present key findings and recommendations to management.


Audit and Compliance (10%)

  • Assist with internal teams and vendors regarding disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Assist internal and external auditors as requested and required.


Business Analysis / Intelligence (10%)

  • Monitor channel dashboards, KPIs, and associated reporting to track customer activity and usage are maintained and accurate.


Project Lead (10%)

  • Work with stakeholders to identify service gaps and develop business requires for payment applications, systems, and processes.
  • Assist with implementation and configuration of payment applications and systems.
  • Assist development of project planning and execution.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree and four (4) years of payment systems related experience; or six (6) plus years of payment systems related experience


Certification:

  • National Check Professional (NCP)
  • Accredited ACH Professional (AAP)
  • In addition, the employee must attend the necessary continuous educational requirements to maintain an active certification.
  • Candidate must hold one or more of the following industry certifications or is in process of obtaining:
  • Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP)

Skills/Abilities:

TECHNICAL SKILLS
Strong Knowledge and experience with:

  • Payment industry channels (ACH, Check, Cash, Card, Wires, RTP, FedNow, Faster Payment solutions, etc.)
  • Fiserv DNA core banking system
  • Payment systems / applications and software (Fedline, Image Center, Remit, Payments Exchange: Fedwire, tMagic, etc.)
  • Payment Network file transmission (Federal Reserve, ECCHO, SWIFT, etc.)
  • Payment System regulations and Dodd-Frank Act


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work without constant supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong investigation, remediation, and reporting intuition
