Department Information


The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) has been the heart of the Indiana University Bloomington campus for more than 100 years. Every day thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests enjoy the many amenities and opportunities the IMU has to offer.

Union Boards Films, the country’s longest-running college film series, has been screening films to the IU community since 1914. Films are shown at the Whittenberger Auditorium (located on the first floor of the Indiana Memorial Union) and at outdoor locations across campus and are free of charge to IU students.

Job Summary

  • Researches ideas, background information, previous designs, inspiration from Marketing Leads and Directors, etc.
  • Applies creativity and design principles to digital and print designs using Adobe Creative Cloud programs, clearly communicating the purpose of the marketing piece for appropriate audiences.
  • Communicates internally in a timely and professional manner, regarding critiques, production updates, and status of projects.
  • Through collaboration with all of Union Board Marketing, brings concepts to life and finalizes files to the highest standards.
  • Reports to a Union Board Advisor and Director of Marketing and work closely with various Marketing Leads, Directors, and other Graphic Designers. Participates in various meetings, critiques, and brainstorming sessions as necessary.
  • Creates a variety of digital and print designs for campaigns, signage, social media, posters, and more.
  • Works closely with Director of Marketing, Marketing Leads, and other Graphic Design team members to collaborate on creative solutions to bring ideas to life.

Qualifications


EDUCATION

Required

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University

Preferred

  • Pursuit of a degree in Graphic Design or related field

SKILLS

Required

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (CC): InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Exceptional decision-making skills and autonomy
  • Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, and respect for others
  • Experience creating designs and layout of campaigns and advertisements
  • Motivated individual: strives for ongoing improvement and is passionate about learning
  • Performs well in a team-oriented, collaborative atmosphere
  • Ability to receive constructive criticism in order to improve skillset
  • Exceptional written and communication skills
  • Understanding of effective design principles and typography
  • Strong sense of curiosity and creativity
  • Fine attention to detail

Preferred

  • Other artistic talents, i.e. drawing, painting
  • Understanding of effective marketing tactics
  • Knowledge of additional Adobe Creative Cloud programs
