Job Description
Part-time Communications Manager, Designer
Flexible Location
TNTP seeks a Part-time Communications Manager, Designer to work up to 25 hours a week, supporting teams across the organization. This position may be based in a home office anywhere in the U.S.
Who We Are
A national nonprofit founded by teachers, TNTP believes our nation’s public schools can offer all children an excellent education. Today we’re a diverse team from a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality. We work at every level of the public education system to attract and train talented teachers and school leaders, ensure rigorous and engaging classrooms, and create environments that prioritize great teaching and accelerate student learning.
We are currently seeking individuals to join TNTP’s part-time pool to fill roles across the organization. TNTP part-time staff provide additional capacity to complete client, brand, and marketing design projects or provide coverage during staff transitions and leaves. Assignments will vary in length with most lasting between 2 weeks and 3-4 months, and work through the TNTP part-time pool is not guaranteed.
What You’ll Do
As a Part-time Communications Manager, Designer at TNTP, you will work closely with staff and leaders across the team and organization to tell the story of our work through graphic and digital design across a variety of platforms. We’re looking for people who have experience creating and reviewing graphics within a brand framework, are as comfortable designing within Adobe CS as they are in Microsoft Office products, and who approach every challenge with a creative problem-solving mindset.
Specific responsibilities may include:
  • Create standalone collateral—such as flyers and postcards—for TNTP regions, services, programs, and clients.
  • Drive projects proactively and independently, demonstrating self-reliance and the ability to work effectively once provided initial guidance.
  • Review and design within PowerPoint decks and Word documents to ensure fidelity with TNTP’s brand guidelines, making formatting edits and drafting new visual content as needed.
  • Collaborate with other team members to design collateral aligned with project goals.
  • Experience copyediting and proofreading preferred.

First and foremost, we are looking for amazing people who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, are inspired by our mission, and are highly motivated to change children's lives through education. We value diversity of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender, religion, language, ability, and experience and exemplify this through the makeup of our team at all levels. You'll be right at home here if you cultivate strong relationships and push yourself, your work, and the people around you to the next level. We encourage those with the following identities to apply: Black, Latinx, Asian American, and Pacific Islander, local Indigenous people, LGBTQIA+ and non-binary people, veterans, people living with disabilities, and others with lived experience being part of marginalized communities.
We expect our Part-time Communications Manager, Designer to:

You are intellectually curious and thrive on working with multidisciplinary teams, often across multiple projects at once. You can leverage communications in service of larger strategic vision.

  • Be dedicated to equity. You think about and are attuned to the experiences and concerns of your audiences. You are dedicated to creating and promoting equity-centered communications that lift the voices and experiences of the communities in which we work.
  • Build relationships. You’ll regularly partner with internal team members and external vendors and can quickly build trust and credibility. You authentically collaborate, develop, and manage high-level relationships that build investment in brand. You bring out the best in your colleagues and help foster an inclusive and collaborative team culture.
  • Model cross-cultural agility. Authentic self-reflection, self-awareness, and high emotional intelligence are central to who you are as a leader, and you utilize these skills to shape to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Be an outstanding communicator. You are creative in working across mediums and are constantly look for new ways to present information, data, points of view, and experiences. You have a keen design eye, can find simplicity in complexity, and spot opportunities to carry a message in various ways and mediums.
