Job Description

Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for directing and managing all manufacturing operations including training, scheduling, production flow, maintenance, quality, asset management, fleet/delivery, and other production-related activities.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and training to accomplish PCM’s goals and objectives.
  • Establish (and maintain) effective communication between all departments (i.e., Drafting/Engineering, Cut Billing, Purchasing, Project Management, Shop Supervision, Production, Human Resources, etc.).
  •  Establish and maintain open dialogue with corporate safety consultants.
  • O “Fast-track” jobs that are falling behind production standards.
  • Implement cost effective systems to control capital/operating expenditures, workforce, wages and salaries.
  • O Collaborate with corporate Continuous Improvement Team to drive results
  • Ensure the facility is compliant and operates within all OSHA guidelines. This includes documenting that all employees have timely and successfully completed safety training.
  • Build and maintain a cohesive work culture that reflects the core culture of Shamrock Metals.
  • O Regular review of production, hours and efficiencies to meet product demand.
  • O Mentor and provide continual training on processes, and alternate techniques/solutions.
  • Direct and manage scheduling, manpower, production, maintenance, quality, and shipping and receiving.
  • O Review jobs and estimate hours needed to run through shop.
  • O Provide Operations Manager a “projection plan” for each job that enters the shop.
  • O Implement alternate production methods to ensure jobs are completed timely based on comparison of plan hours and estimated hours yielding a high-quality product.
  •  Respond/Resolve all open issues of concern.
  • O Foster a culture of continuous improvement (Kaizen), and leverage formalized tools to improve operations, output, costs, and overall business effectiveness.
  • Control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight, and repair/ maintenance expenses.
  • O Implement and facilitate training and methodologies to improve the fabrication processes and cost efficiencies.
  • Oversee and incorporate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among all personnel.
  • Maintain existing facilities and equipment assets; replace or make adjustments when necessary and cost effective.
  • O Visible on the shop floor much of each day.
  • Manage capital asset maintenance.
  • O Collaborate with Shop Supervision to ensure shop team is accountable for quality, production schedule, and overall job performance.
  • O Maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  •  Hold regular safety meetings to ensure safety goals are on-track.
  • O Build rapport and earn the trust/confidence of shop team.
  • Responsible for meeting production goals, as well as developing strategies to increase production at minimal costs.
  • Provide input into the annual operating plan and capital budgets.
  •  Continually monitor shop safety practices for compliance.
  • Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
  • Coordinate plant activities through the planning with Project Managers/Sales staff to ensure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner, as well as within the specified quality standards of the customer and company.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Oversee hardware, sheet goods and lumber inventories, to ensure accurate recording and tracking of inventory items.
  • Partner with Human Resources to ensure annual open enrollment, performance appraisals, etc. are completed timely.
  • Facilitate weekly shop floor/production meetings and report on the progress of work orders and job progress.
  • Ability to manage and overcome cultural and personality differences among staff.
  • Oversee loading of shipments to ensure that millwork is properly labeled, counted, and recorded.
  • Effectively promote a positive team culture and monitor employee morale.
  • Track finish-sample requests to ensure that samples are completed by the request date.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for building security.

Qualifications/Certifications/Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years previous experience in a management role within the custom architectural millwork industry.
  • High School Diploma or GED. Associates Degree in related field is preferred.
  • Bi-lingual/Spanish, preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in Continuous Improvement program
  • Proficient in problem solving/analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and implement alternate solutions to challenges.
  • Superior conflict resolution skills.
  • Previous experience overseeing annual budget of $10,000,000.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
