Description
At South County Outpatient Surgery Center, we are an Ophthalmology Surgery Center servicing the Delray Beach, FL area. We strive in providing a warm, positive, and energetic atmosphere where we can all feel comfortable, as well as extend exceptional service to help our patients maintain good vision. Our team members are the backbone of our surgery center and are the ones who make the patient experience an amazing one. To assist us in continuing to provide such great service, we have an immediate opening for an Operating Room - Scrub Tech to join our team.
This is a Monday - Friday, Day Shift position. No Weekends & No Holidays!
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS include the following:
- Clean and restock the operating room, gathering and placing equipment and supplies and arranging instruments according to preference cards.
- Demonstrates competence related to the application of the Surgery Center’s core values.
- Provide technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses, or anesthesiologists.
- Monitor and assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
- Practices all facets of health & safety.
- Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by the surgeon.
- Prepare dressings or bandages and apply or assist the surgeon following surgery.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after the operation.
- Maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures.
- Operate, assemble, adjust, or monitor sterilizers, lights, suction machines, or diagnostic equipment prior to surgery.
- Labels medications on the sterile field.
- Performs surgical scrub and assists the surgical team to scrub and put on gloves, and surgical attire.
- Observe patients' vital signs to assess their physical condition.
- Maintain supplies of fluids, such as plasma, saline, blood, or glucose, for use during operations.
- Wash and sterilize equipment, using germicides and sterilizers.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning and preparing the surgical field.
- Prepare, care for, and dispose of tissue specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
- Assists nurse manager with updating preference cards.
- Order surgical supplies with the nurse manager.
QUALIFICATIONS (Experience, Skills, and Education):
- Experience in the medical field with patients.
- Experience as an operating room scrub technician preferred.
- Have excellent computer skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
- Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and team members.
- Medical Assistant Certified preferred.
- Must be well-organized and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- SPD Tech experience preferred.
- Certified Surgical Scrub Tech.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Must uphold the highest ethical principles of maintaining the confidentiality and other performance standards.
