Surgical Technician - Labor & Delivery

The Surgical Technician demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile technique and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of special procedures.

The function of Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies (WPHWB) Labor and Delivery Unit is based on the primary care model principles. As a Level III Perinatal Center, comprehensive patient centered obstetrical nursing care is provided for both low and high-risk families during the antenatal, labor and delivery and immediate postpartum periods. The Labor and Delivery Unit (L & D) is composed of twenty eight (28) Labor and Delivery Rooms (LDRs) that provide the expectant family with the opportunity to remain together as a unit during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.

Labor and Delivery provides care for:

• Immediate newborn care post delivery
• Complications of pregnancy requiring inpatient and outpatient evaluation
• Emotional and physical care for patients requiring medical termination of pregnancy post-fetal
• Immediate postpartum recovery
• Inductions of labor
• Mothers in active labor with expected delivery, with or without epidurals

Education/Training:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of:

National certification as Surgical Technologist from one of the following is required:

Experience:
One (1) year surg tech experience.
