The State of Connecticut, the Department of Developmental Services (DDS)- West Region, is currently accepting applications for the position of Nurse (35 Hour).

The Role:
  • Required to provide coordination of all medical services necessary to meet the health and safety needs of individuals living there.
  • Provide ongoing training for LPN’s and non-licensed medication certified staff as required by state and Federal regulation.
  • Provide clinical oversight of LPNs who provide direct nursing care to very medically involved individuals. These individuals may have extensive medical and psychiatric needs. Per the CT Nurse Practice Act, LPN’s must work under the direction of an RN at all times.
  • Disseminates medical guidelines or recommendations distributed by the Department of Public Health, Department of Social Services and DDS and is a liaison nurse for any consumer admitted to a hospital or rehabilitation facility as required by federal regulation.
  • Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Position Highlights:
  • Week 2 : Saturday- Tuesday 6am-2:30pm.
  • Will be required to travel.
  • Week 1 : Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 6am-2:30pm. Thursday 6am-12:30pm. Friday 6am-2:30pm.

These positions will be filled in accordance with contractual language, reemployment, SEBAC, transfer, promotion and merit employment rules. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for providing a full range of professional nursing care.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited nursing program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who possess:
  • Experience with infection control practices.
  • Experience working individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook applications: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Experience with basic nursing skills to include but not limited to: providing medication and nutrition via G-tube or J-tube, diabetic care, respiratory treatments, colostomy, cecostomy, and urostomy care, wound care, and catheterization.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license or temporary permit as a Registered Professional Nurse in Connecticut.
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language in certain designated positions.
3. Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
