THE CHALLENGE

This position is responsible for the building, operation, and management of the network services for Onward Energy’s enterprise (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) environments. Ensures the day-to-day operation of all corporate and remote connectivity, focusing on highly available, reliable, and secure data communications. Works independently and with the team to communicate and proactively identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover from potential issues while troubleshooting complex problems to avoid costly service outages. The position also oversees the development, testing, and lifecycle of documentation for the architecture, operation, and maintenance of IT and OT network services.


THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain the readiness of IT and OT communication systems including, but not limited to circuits, field, and enterprise network communications equipment (switches, routers, cellular, Wi-Fi, etc.), management platforms and tools, and the backup and recovery of systems and services.
  • Maintain and enhance the IT documentation library and record activities.
  • Assist with and/or lead assigned projects for new system and service implementations, lifecycle, and replacement.
  • Maintain the security, confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of services and systems.
  • Provide on-call / after-hours support; work remotely as required; travel on-demand when needed.
  • Remediate issues affecting security and compliance through configuration management, patching, updating, and documentation.
  • Evaluate technology products and services as assigned.
  • Maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity in all dealings with or on behalf of the company at all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Actively demonstrate engagement and embody responsibility for exemplifying Onward Energy’s vision and core values.
  • Identify and resolve hardware and communication problems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Protect the integrity, and conduct periodic testing, of the company’s Business Systems Continuity Management and Disaster Recovery Plan.


THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.

  • Must be well versed in network and communication technologies and have the desire to learn more about the rapidly expanding ecosystem.
  • A current, or recently expired (within the last year), Cisco CCNP certification is required.
  • Must have a strong ability to organize and feel comfortable with a large, diverse, and changing set of support and project-related assignments, with a resolute determination to assess and resolve familiar or unfamiliar problems.
  • Current, or recently expired (within the last year), certifications in the following are preferred:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to interact with other IT teams and business stakeholders professionally.
  • ITIL v4 Foundations
  • Ability to interact well with all levels of personnel and management, be a team player, and perform challenging tasks well under pressure.
  • Ability to re-prioritize assignments as needed, and at times without advance notice.
  • Maintain and build effective working relationships with technology vendors.
  • Extensive experience with routing protocols, configuration, and implementation, in particular BGP and OSPF, VRF, etc.
  • Implementation, administration, and support of local and remote network infrastructure, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 data communications.
  • Extensive experience with switching protocols, configuration, and implementation.
  • Highly self-motivated and comfortable operating with limited supervision.
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Ability to work and prioritize well in a fast-paced, dynamic atmosphere, quickly tackling difficult issues.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • At least eight (8) years of network administration experience, with respect to:
  • Firewall and security technologies (particularly Check Point Next Generation Firewall) a plus.
  • Extensive experience with field / OT communication methods and technologies preferred.
  • Energy industry experience preferred, having worked in both corporate data center and field OT environments, with NERC CIP and NIST compliance controls andstandards.
  • CompTIA Project+
  • Scripting to automate common tasks.
  • Certifications or certificates from Check Point, Palo Alto, Unify, Schweitzer, Moxa, or other prominent technology vendors are preferred.
