Salary: $13.65-$14.64 hourly


Job Summary


The Programs and Animal Care Assistant helps provide programming to a variety of audiences during Centennial Village’s Season as well as assists staff in feeding and caring for a variety of farmyard animals. Duties include providing 10–30-minute programs and demonstrations on a variety of topics, along with assisting in the feeding and care of a variety of farmyard animals under direction from other staff. The position will work an average of 20-30 hours a week depending on programmatic needs from now until late October.


Experience, Knowledge, Skills


  • Follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and interest in Greeley, Weld County, and Colorado history.
  • Ability to adapt verbal and visual communication to diverse audience groups.
  • High School graduate/GED equivalent and six months of relevant experience or two years of collegiate education.Demonstrated ability in public speaking and customer service.
  • Experience in third-person interpretation techniques.
  • Experience working with audiences from children to seniors in informal or formal learning environments.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Valid CO driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Animal care experience with small and/or large livestock including knowledge of and practice in, feeding, cleaning, supply organization, welfare monitoring, and safety handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of or interest in historic skillsets ranging from skills such as fibercraft, historic cooking, blacksmithing, printing, and/or similar others.


Essential Functions


  • Safely learn and demonstrate historic skills such as cooking, fiber arts, blacksmithing, woodworking, printing, and similar skills to a variety of audiences.
  • Monitor animal’s health and contact supervisor/owner veterinarian if healthcare needs arise.
  • Conduct a variety of formal and informal interpretive programs such as tours, workshops, and school programs for diverse audiences both at City of Greeley Museum Sites and at external locations such as schools, fairs, and similar.
  • Move animals to and from pens/coops for events, cleaning, and other purposes.
  • Provide excellent customer services to all Historic Sites Patrons during a variety of formal and informal interactions.
  • Assist in the creation of interpretive media such as social media posts, videos, and related projects as assigned.
  • Set-up & take-down animal pens and coops for events involving animal participation.
  • Ensure all animals in the museum’s care are properly fed, watered, and have clean and proper bedding.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, barn storage areas, and other spaces where work is accomplished.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Assist grounds and facilities staff in a variety of light duties such as special event set-up and tear down, light gardening, minor cleaning, and similar tasks.


Work Environment And Physical Requirements


  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Stamina sufficient to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent and heavy interaction with museum visitors.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors where weather conditions can vary.
  • Work fixed hours in early mornings and afternoons to feed and care for livestock.
  • Incumbent may be exposed to loud amplified sound equipment while working grounds.
  • Ability to lift arm above shoulder level and to move objects.
  • Hearing and speech enough to effectively communicate with site visitors in person through presenting history programs and answering questions for group size ranging from 1 – 100 people.
  • Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and occasional evenings as required.
  • Work around small and large livestock in stalls, pens, coops, and similar, always maintaining situational awareness.
  • Will be required to move, bend, twist, and stoop in performance of job duties.
  • Vision enough to preform job duties.
  • Must be comfortable working in historical clothing.
