Job Summary


The Animal Logistics Manager is responsible for providing leadership and management of the Animal Logistics team. The Animal Logistics Manager ensures operational goals are created and achieved; as well as cultivating an environment of compassionate & respectful animal, people, and community care in accordance with HSPPR's mission, values, goals, and management philosophy.


Key Duties And Responsibilities


  • Obtain certification to perform humane euthanasia, and train staff responsible for performing humane euthanasia based on best practices.
  • Complete approval process for humane euthanasia decisions.
  • Facilitate and collaborate with staff, other managers, and Veterinarians to review and develop procedures, discuss concerns, and brainstorm solutions.
  • Communicate with patrons advocating for animals in care regarding treatment and behavior plans, & euthanasia decisions.
  • Oversee the animal population and make decisions about treatment and behavior plans by incorporating veterinarian recommendations, community resources, and HSPPR resources.
  • Manage Pueblo animal transfer shelter functions in close collaboration with Animal Logistics department in Colorado Springs.


Relationships


  • Work to anticipate and resolve conflict & promote open communication between volunteers, staff, and patrons. Solicit employee input regarding their work and workplace.
  • Deescalate situations with confrontational clients in person and over the phone.
  • Regular and consistent communication and collaboration with other departments and locations to promote and support team culture throughout the organization.


Fiscal Responsibility


  • Follow HSPPR's accounting protocols related to budget monitoring and reporting, cash handling, and other financial responsibilities.
  • Submit department budget requests, operate within the parameters of the established budget.
  • Oversee inventory of supplies and ordering for the department.
  • Manage Animal Logistics payroll and budgets to ensure efficiency.


Performance Management and Supervision


  • Recognize good performance and counsel staff to correct problems. Adhere to principles of progressive discipline.
  • Coach staff by providing ongoing feedback and timely performance evaluations. Set performance standards; direct and motivate employees.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate direct reports in the performance of their job responsibilities.
  • Regularly evaluate department policies and procedures and update as needed.


Other


  • Appropriately documents observed animal behaviors utilizing objective language as required in relevant procedures and/or policies.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, goals and success of HSPPR.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Duties


Animal Logistics Technicians, Canine Logistics Specialist, and Canine Behavior Specialist.


Physical Demands


  • Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and is frequently required to stand and walk. May be expected to be on feet for extended periods of time.
  • May be occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move 25 or more pounds of moving weight and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 or more pounds of moving weight.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Potential exposure to cleaning supplies and/or other substances containing toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available.
  • Regularly sits at computer station, often in a shared office environment.
  • Regularly exposed to noise and potential exposure to hazardous weather conditions.


Schedule Requirements


Schedule may include weekend and evening work.


Education/Experience Necessary


  • KPA, IAABC, or CTC certification preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge in Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Prompt and dependable, able to follow instructions, work independently, respond to management direction, and able to improve performance through management feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust and rapport at all levels of the organization.
  • Organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality.
  • Strong time management skills: able to prioritize and plan work activities to use time efficiently.
  • Two years prior experience in an open-admission animal shelter environment preferred.
  • 2-3 years of supervisory or managerial experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience preferred.
  • Communicate clearly, both written and verbally, with staff and in group presentations and meetings.
