Onsite/Remote: Onsite Position


This position may be located in Dubuque, IA or Kernersville, NC per the hiring manager's discretion. This may be dependent on the successful candidate's background, experience, and proficiency.


Your Responsibilities


As a Model- Based Component & Controls Engineer for John Deere's Construction & Forestry Division located in Kernersville, NC or Dubuque, IA, you will provide correlated hydraulic component models for virtual development and testing of the construction product portfolio. This position will provide technical guidance for component test plans, data acquisition, and analysis and support control systems development and physical machine tuning as needed. As such, this position requires a demonstrated understanding of hydraulic components and systems, earthmoving equipment, and control theory. Tools include MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape. Specifically, you will…


  • Support and influence component test plans, data acquisition, and analysis to develop and demonstrate model correlation
  • Create Engineering Analysis Procedures to document component characterization methods and processes
  • Demonstrate a growing understanding of construction products, customer applications, and machine operation
  • Generate reports documenting component model correlation to physical test data
  • Perform on-machine control systems troubleshooting and tuning
  • Collaborate with Dynamic Systems Modeling, Controls, and product design teams to fully understand functional requirements for machine systems, component characterization, and model-delivery

What Skills You Need


  • Experience using simulation tools for developing physics-based mathematical models to characterize physical components and/or systems
  • Experience defining, executing, and documenting lab-environment tests , methods, and procedures
  • Cross-functional understanding of machine systems including embedded systems, hydraulics, powertrain, and structural linkages
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Model-based experience with control systems design and application of control theory
  • Demonstrated expertise with mechanical systems, physics, mathematics, and dynamic system analysis


What Makes You Stand Out


  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and Simscape tools for model-based system design and control system development
  • Expert-level understanding in embedded systems, electrical hardware, and/or hydraulic systems
  • Advanced degree in an Engineering discipline
  • Expertise in model-based hydraulic component and/or electro-hydraulic system design
  • Experience performing on-machine tuning for off-highway equipment


Education


Ideally, you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:


  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline
