Job Summary:

Job Summary:

You will be an individual contributor performing as part of a team in developing life cycle and troubleshooting engineering solutions for electrical ride & show systems. You will report to Team Leader, Systems Controls. You will be hands-on, designing, developing, editing, and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) software code as well as hardware troubleshooting of PLC hardware/modules. This is a highly dynamic work environment with constantly evolving priorities where you will be providing technical direction; delivering troubleshooting resolution; analyzing control system/software hazards; and leading technical projects. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, service provider work environments, and safety.

Responsibilities/You Will:

  • Understand ride system interfaces and how it relates to the overall operation of the Attraction.
  • Partner with other Engineering teams on design efforts.
  • Respond to Attraction downtimes supporting Engineering Services and Operations urgent needs.
  • Develop engineering design documentation including engineering drawings, calculations, system requirements, hazards analysis, performance specifications, test plans, and maintenance procedures.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting PLC software and hardware on sophisticated ride systems.
  • Perform ride system hazard analyses, including fault tree analysis and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Develop/implement immediate solutions based on collected data, perform engineering analysis, verify design/installation compliance with applicable codes and standards, supervise fabrication and installation efforts, and perform acceptance testing.
  • Carry out Department change process documents and procedures.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams and operations partners – bringing together information during downtime response and working cohesively on reliability improvement efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and codes: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), National Electric Code (NEC), etc...
  • Stay apprised of the latest developments in ride control system technology, equipment, and materials so that designs specify cost-effective, energy-efficient, and reliable systems.
  • Open to work weekends, holidays, occasional 2nd or 3rd shifts, and immediate response coverage.

Basic Qualifications/You will have:

  • Demonstrated experience with open and closed-loop feedback control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLC), relay logic, electric motors (AC and DC) and motor controllers (variable frequency, DC, stepper and servo drives), power conditioning and distributed control networks (e.g. ControlNet).
  • Proven experience working in multi-engineering field efforts including design, installation, testing, and sustaining/plant engineering on safety critical systems.
  • Showed strength in documenting engineering design information in AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, occasional 2nd or 3rd shifts, and immediate response coverage.
  • Showed working experience in electrical/controls engineering within the industrial controls, theme park, automation, or transportation industries.
  • Demonstrated, timely, field troubleshooting experience including solution development and implementation in the industrial controls, automation, or transportation industries.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with software programming including ladder logic (A-B or Siemens) and C environments.
  • Showed knowledge of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 79, and UL 508A codes and standards.
  • Confirmed experience in ride and show control systems including safety-critical applications for the entertainment industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of audio and video systems including amps/mixers, microphones, digital audio, cameras, projectors video servers, and displays.
  • EIT or active Professional Engineering (PE) license in the State of Florida.
  • Previous Disney experiences as part of College Programs, Internship, or Engineering Services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PC and Network systems including hardware, switches/routers, wireless, cabling/fiber communication, IP configuration, network security, and general troubleshooting.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited curriculum.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited curriculum.
