Medical Laboratory Technician Jobs

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join the team at the Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI). This is a full-time position with HHS. The Medical Laboratory Technician will perform general phlebotomy and laboratory testing either independently or assisting other hospital personnel. The Technician will work closely with IMHI medical providers and nursing professionals to ensure that specimen collection is done correctly and sent in a timely manner to IMHI’s reference lab for analysis. The Technician will compile statistics and data necessary to document a program of quality control and report outcomes to the Laboratory Director. The position will also assist with other duties assigned in the Nursing Department.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to eighteen months of full-time work involving the performance of laboratory tests and examinations as illustrated in this class description;

OR

registration as a Certified Laboratory Assistant through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists;

OR

registration as a Certified Technician through the American Medical Technologist Association;

OR

registration as a Certified Technician through the International Society of Clinical Technicians;

OR

an associate of arts degree in the field of medical laboratory technology and registration as a Registered Laboratory Technician through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
