Mechanical & Process Piping Designer

As a mechanical designer, you will support the design and construction of novel battery chemical plants and lead the development of concept, permit, construction, and fabrication drawings for the process systems at Tesla’s battery material manufacturing facilities. This will include 2D process flow and instrumentation diagrams along with 2D and 3D equipment and plant layouts. You will also assist with the coordination efforts between the various disciplines to optimize full-plant designs.

• Competent in understanding and updating P&ID’s, PFD’s, & 2D Layouts
• Ability to accurately read and back-check drawings produced by drafting.
• Ability to read and interpret vendor equipment drawings and technical data
• Interact with designers and engineers within the engineering group and other disciplines
• Collaborate in a team environment to create multi-discipline design packages for construction
• Perform fieldwork necessary to gather data, check tie-ins and provide construction support
• Follow company CAD standards and piping specifications
• Ensure design compliance with respective company specifications and codes.
• Creation of Isometrics, Orthos, Piping plans, Bill of Materials, Navis Models, Fabrication drawings
• 3D modeling of process piping and equipment
• Create LISPs, blocks and procedures to accelerate modeling accuracy and modeling efficiency

• Ability to develop and work from P&ID’s for plant layout & piping design
• Must be able to meet deadlines and work overtime as needed to complete the job
• Knowledge of process and utility piping specifications and codes
• Thorough understanding and is efficient with standard design and drafting practices
• 5+ years of CADWorx experience
• Ability to visualize and layout equipment & piping within open or confined areas
• 5-15 years of AutoCAD and Navisworks experience
• Strong technical, written, and verbal skills.
• Strong mechanical & process piping design background
• Code and Plant Specific Standard knowledge/comprehension a must
• Experience with Plant 3D
