A Snapshot of What You’ll Do:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for the mechanical design, development and testing of Anton Paar QuantaTec’s new and existing analytical lab instrumentation products. In this role you’ll be responsible for:

  • Coordinating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to support existing products and new product development
  • Actively leading by setting priorities, expectations and fully advancing the team through hiring, training and mentoring
  • Managing the mechanical team and design process to ensure state of the art tools and techniques are utilized to ensure that projects are delivered on-time with unsurpassed quality.


The Impact You’ll Make:

To succeed as a Mechanical Engineering Manager on our team, you’ll need to be a self-starter who leads a team, balances multiple projects on defined timelines and engages with inter-company teams to refine the product requirements. Job duties include:

  • Providing technical support on the mechanics to internal customers within a defined time frame
  • Interpreting project specifications to create system concepts and develop 3D models
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Performing root cause analysis to support quality initiatives, and initiating corrective and preventive action plans
  • Handling the most challenging issues and elevating as necessary on behalf of the department
  • Developing, implementing, and documenting changes to current products to improve quality, serviceability and/or to lower costs
  • Acting as a liaison between departments in order to ensure project is executed on schedule
  • Attend brainstorming sessions to develop new products and address existing product challenges
  • Working with the department Director to meet corporate objectives and targets
  • Attending meetings on behalf of the department for project planning
  • Delivering all aspects of the Anton Paar development process with attention to quality and detail
  • Holding design reviews with project teams to get feedback and refine ideas
  • Designing, and implementing test and validation procedures for new and existing products
  • Maintaining internal mechanical standards and sharing best practices with team
  • Creating proposals for new products, improving existing products and/or optimizing manufacturability
  • Ensuring QuantaTec mechanical practices and standards are consistent with all Anton Paar facilities
  • Following all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations
  • Evaluating internal talent to best allocate resources and assign work accordingly
  • Creating 3D models using CAD to refine design and further test and verify
  • Tracking the performance of mechanical systems and parts to maintain alignment with engineering timelines
  • Developing engineering plans, costed BOMs, and mechanical systems and parts


Education and Experience We’re Hoping To Find:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager typically requires a combination of supervisory experience, education, training, certifications and skills. This role requires the following:

  • Demonstrated efficient work methods and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to create fully defined 3D models and 2D CAD drawings from conceptual stages through manufacturing including prototypes and testing of concepts
  • Ability to design and layout sheet metal parts, panels, doors and knowledge of the sheet metal fabrication processes along with the implementation of fasteners for ease of assembly
  • Minimum of 2 years managing a team
  • Experience with at least 1 of the following CAD packages: NX, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or Catia
  • Basic knowledge of light duty mechanical, pneumatic or electric lifts including selection of motors, bearings, pulleys and drive belts
  • Strong analytical skills demonstrating effective problem-solving techniques
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in the engineering field
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Ability to perform simulations of complex mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of primary and secondary machining processes including milling, turning and selection of associated finishes for both metals and plastics
  • Strong knowledge of integrating material selections into designs for product performance and ease of manufacturing
  • Understands GD&T techniques and capable of performing tolerance calculations

Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse team

  • Self-motivated and a strong work ethic

Preferred skills include:

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience with transducers and sensor integration
  • Knowledge of high/low pressure liquid or gas systems and the ability to design and layout leak tight P&ID, including tubing templates, fittings and gating devices
  • Prior design experience in electro-mechanical devices and high vacuum technology
  • Ability to design and spec tooling, processes associated with plastic injection molding, structural foam for aesthetic housings and components

Supervision Exercised

This role is a working manager who is a member of multiple teams and supervises approximately two to four Engineers and Technicians


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe, communicate and handle items such as computers, machinery and other equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Position requires the ability to obtain a Passport for international travel.
