Summary
The Mechanical Engineer (Wind Turbine Drivetrain) provides technical support to a large operating fleet of wind energy projects with emphasis on addressing the reliability and performance challenges associated with wind turbine drivetrains and developing subject matter expertise in the field.
Responsibilities
  • Some travel (< 25%) and moderate field work may be required.
  • Track major component repairs, including the collection of repair reports and the updating of a failure log
  • Visit sites to conduct special inspections, failure investigations, or provide training.
  • Assess damage to drivetrain components, categorize severity, and provide repair dispositions
  • Lead pilot projects to evaluate new equipment, tools, or processes associated with blades.
  • Assist with the reliability management of bearings, gearboxes, generators, and motors within wind turbine drivetrain systems
  • File warranty claims with wind turbine OEMs
  • Schedule End of Warranty inspections for major drivetrain components
  • Source hard-to-find parts for aging wind turbines
  • Help build and develop the capabilities of in-house repair teams.
  • Perform parts usage analysis on both high-volume and high-cost consumables
Required Skills
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and able to quickly acclimate to new software
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment alongside people with multiple interests and backgrounds.
  • Strong time-management and/or project-management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or relevant physical science
  • Strong interest and understanding of mechanical and/or aerodynamic systems
  • Zero to three years of work experience
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with large data sets and performing statistical analysis is a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy.
  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with wind turbines, equipment reliability, bearings, condition-monitoring, or CMMS software is a plus
