Position Responsibilities

This position will provide support for all material analysis investigations involving metals or alloys at the North American QA Center in Seymour, Indiana. These analyses may come from any source (suppliers, Aisin Manufacturing plants, Customers, etc.) and must be accompanied by a professional material analysis report.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist Aisin North American manufacturing plant locations, as needed, with quality improvement
  • Maintain analysis equipment and tools, as assigned, in the NA QA Center material analysis laboratory
  • Perform material analysis and potential material related failure analysis investigations on submitted samples and sub-assemblies in a timely fashion and provide a detailed analysis and conclusion documented in a standard AISIN format report
  • Support activities shown in association with the Aisin North American Quality Assurance annual job plan as well as the Aisin NA long term business
  • Assist in sourcing equipment and support material as necessary for effective and efficient operation of the NA QA Center materials laboratory
  • Analysis includes determining proper investigation sequence, performing hand-on sample preparation, teardown, and testing as required.


Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of operational (Quality) manuals and training material for identified key quality methods and Plan, schedule, and deliver training sessions, as needed/requested, by AWA management or NAP locations.
  • Work closely with the Aisin Detroit Materials Engineering Group & Quality staff to develop a "One AISIN" team attitude.


Required Skills and Abilities

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Strong Failure Analysis/ Troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to coordinate and negotiate with customer and AISIN facilities
  • Desire to do hands-on lab work
  • Experience performing analysis and material investigations for metals and alloys
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is essential
  • Technical report writing and effective communication skills are essential


Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Working knowledge of advanced analysis equipment (SEM/EDS, XRF, etc)
  • Knowledge of production processes such as welding, heat treatment, stamping, and
  • Knowledge of Seven Basic QC Tools
  • Experience with organic production process such as injection molding, adhesion, vibration and laser welding is also beneficial
  • Experience with organic materials such as resins, paints, and adhesives is a plus


Education/Training/Certifications

  • B.S. in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering at a minimum


Work Environment Requirements

  • Must be able to work on multiple assignments at once, and complete assignments within deadline and budget (if applicable) with satisfactory quality.

Attendance/Work Hour Requirements

  • Must maintain an acceptable attendance
  • Must be willing and available to work such weekends and holidays as necessary and desirable to meet business needs (This is rarely required, but can occur).


Travel Requirements

  • Travel approximately 0-4 times per month (0-5%)
  • Must be willing and available to travel to such locations and with such frequency as is necessary and desirable to meet business needs.
