Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a role as an Optical Engineer to join the Product Development team at Complete Genomics. The candidate will support the product development team as part of our Research and Development center of excellence to develop advanced sequencing platforms that meet diagnostic and research needs.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Design, develop, and help maintain the optical modules of instrumentation systems in fulfillment of the project goals.
  • Participate in product development of complex, precision optical instruments from architectural concept through production, and carry out engineering system error budgeting.
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.
  • Work with team members to ensure successful completion, test, and deployment of the sequencing systems. This may include Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Consumable Designers, Software Engineers, Service Engineers, and Biological Scientists.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and suppliers as needed.
  • Ensure proper engineering documentation and document control as required by the project. This may include design, regulatory, test, and planning documents.

WHAT YOUR EDUCATION LOOKS LIKE

  • Bachelor's degree in optics, physics, or EE with academic or professional training focused on optical engineering with minimum of 2 years experience.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING US

  • Ability to carry out data analysis, trouble shooting and problem solving in building complex and interdisciplinary instruments.
  • Solid background in optical science and engineering, with comprehensive optics and system knowledge.
  • Experience in product development of complex, precision instruments from concept through production.
  • Hands-on experience with building optical systems, doing optical alignment and building test setup.
  • Familiar with various optical components including light source, sensors, and imaging modalities, and opto-mechanical integration.
  • Extensive knowledge of precision optical system design, solid understanding of how microscopic imaging system works and experience with system level design.

HOW YOU WILL BE REWARDED

The base salary range is $106,000 to $150,000 DOE. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. The actual compensation paid to any individual for this position may vary depending on factors such as experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
