Packaging Engineer

As part of our Manufacturing team, you’ll help build the world-class, state-of-the-art smart vehicles we're known for. In our plants around the world, we’re constantly developing new technologies and processes to further increase our efficiency. In this position...

Design, procure, and deploy unique shipping containers for automotive parts.

What you'll do...

  • Reduce container unit costs and tooling costs through optimized designs and new technologies
  • Improve part protection, functionality and durability
  • Drive continuous improvement of container designs
    • Increase pack density to drive lower freight and labor costs
    • Reduce container unit costs and tooling costs through optimized designs and new technologies

  • Schedule and complete transportation testing. Work with our test engineer to determine test criteria and document pass/fail conditions. If required, develop and implement an action plan to correct any issues identified during testing.
  • Advance the science and discipline of packaging engineering through the pursuit of new technologies, methods, and ideas
  • Work with Ford Purchasing to quote, analyze bids, and place orders with fabricators and manufacturers
  • Participate in campaign efforts as required to address repair and/or quality issues with containers
  • Increase pack density to drive lower freight and labor costs
  • Review Fabricator's quality planning to ensure it is in line with standards and expectations

You'll have...

  • Proficiency with Microsoft office applications (particularly Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel as needed (typically within U.S./Canada/Mexico and 1-3 day duration)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • BS Degree in Industrial Engineering or Packaging Engineering or Supply Chain / Logistics

Even better, you may have...

  • Experience with the deployment of packaging interfacing with automation
  • CATIA V5 experience
  • Fabrication knowledge with Steel and Aluminum racking
  • Experience with vac form and injection molded dunnage
  • Working knowledge of Teamcenter Engineering
