Job Description

Blue Star Press, voted one of the industry’s fastest-growing independent publishers by Publishers Weekly three years in a row, seeks a creative and motivated Marketing and Publicity Manager to join its team.


Blue Star Press creates beautiful, highly illustrated books, games, and gift products in the categories of arts, crafts, wellness, self-help, food & drink, coloring, children’s, humor, and more. We are an independent publisher with an entrepreneurial spirit, and our products reflect the passion and vision of our dynamic and highly collaborative team.


The Marketing and Publicity Manager will work with our team to create high-impact marketing and publicity campaigns for approximately 40-50 books, games, and gift products per year. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a dynamic, high-volume department and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The Marketing and Publicity Manager will also be responsible for managing the department’s Marketing and Publicity Coordinator (and Marketing Designer).

This is a full-time remote position.


Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with our authors and internal publishing team to coordinate book tours, influencer campaigns, trade/community events, and other efforts tied to promoting and selling our books
  • Work closely with event organizers, venues, and partners to ensure seamless planning and execution of book events
  • Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to enhance digital m marketing efforts and maximize ROI
  • Research in-person and digital industry events and conferences and determine if the company should have a presence and in what capacity
  • Request blurbs on behalf of authors
  • Manage email campaigns to librarians, authors, indie store owners, etc
  • Create marketing materials and copy to assist the Sales team with selling products
  • Create and manage trade marketing print and digital ad campaigns
  • Work with company Marketing Designer to create and manage company catalogs, including Edelweiss
  • Plan and execute marketing & PR campaigns for books, games, and products released by Blue Star Press and its imprint Paige Tate & Co
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with journalists, editors, reviewers, bloggers, influencers, etc. and craft compelling and impactful press materials and pitches to secure media coverage
  • Coordinate sending advanced review copies to review sites, store owners, bloggers, etc


Skills Required:

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining effective time management
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Motivated self-starter and collaborator with a proven ability to meet deadlines, multitask, and prioritize effectively
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Asana, Dropbox, and Slack
  • Strong verbal and written communication and pitching skills
  • Proficiency in key marketing concepts and tools, including consumer insights, sales analysis, budgeting, social media marketing, media planning, and email marketing
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with experience presenting to large groups
  • A growth mindset and a commitment to a creative, entrepreneurial approach to publishing
  • 4+ years experience in marketing, branding, and PR, preferably in book publishing or an agency environment
  • Experience in managing account or working closely with authors
