Job Description

Marketing and Administrative Assistant.


Organization Overview:

Healing through the empathic power of the horse.

Medicine Horse is a Boulder-based 501c3 nonprofit organization

founded in 2000. Medicine Horse provides free, donation-based groups and scholarships for

those who wouldn't otherwise have access to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Some of the

folks we serve include Veterans, caregivers, first responders, folks in the BIPOC and LGBTQ+

communities, women with breast cancer, at-risk youth, and people struggling with addiction, abuse, and trauma.


Time and location requirements:

Part-time. Medicine Horse office hours are generally Monday – Friday, 9-4. Some weekends as events and programs require. Work will be completed in a hybrid setting in the MH office (Longmont) and remotely as needed and discussed with the supervisor.


Key Duties:

1. Programs Management 30%

2. Volunteer Management 30%

3. Assist with Marketing and Social Media 30%

4. Assist in daily office needs and managing general administrative activities 10%


Programs Management:

  • Managing the registration process.
  • Greeting and checking in groups and participants on the first day of each group.
  • Maintaining the schedule of groups on calendars, software, and our website.
  • Managing communication with organizational partners and individual participants
  • Administering group surveys


Volunteer Management:

  • Ensuring that volunteers' needs are met and they have sufficient training and resources.
  • Helping with volunteer events organization.
  • Maintaining volunteer database.
  • Recruiting new volunteers.
  • Maintaining volunteer sign-ups and schedule
  • Building a relationship with volunteers.
  • Supervising and supporting volunteers during events.
  • Helping to create ways to keep volunteers engaged, make them feel appreciated, and ensure they feel fulfilled.


Marketing and Social Media:

  • Collaborating with our Marketing.
  • Suggesting content optimization.
  • Managing and overseeing social media content.
  • Working with the Social Media and Marketing Team to maintain and grow Medicine Horse's Social Media presence to increase awareness and a general understanding of what MH does and the impact we make.
  • Expanding our reach to new participants, partner organizations, and volunteers.
  • Staying up to date with the latest social media best practices and technologies.
  • Measuring the success of social media campaigns.


General administrative activities:

  • Providing general support to visitors
  • Writing and distributing emails, correspondence memos, letters, and forms.
  • Helping with daily tasks as needed.
  • Acting as the point of contact for internal and external clients


Necessary skills:

  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading ability.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, Google Mail, Calendar, and Drive
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Social Media experience
  • Nonprofit background or education a plus.
  • Comfortable with horses in the environment.
  • Detail-oriented and have excellent time management skills.
  • Able to work in a semi-outdoor environment with dust, hay, horses, etc.
  • Valid current driver's license: travel to the office during business hours is required.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Desire to learn and develop new skills, willingness to ask questions and for help, and be part of the team that helps Medicine Horse grow to the next level.
