RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee and manage the Barge Readiness program for the gulf coast area.
  • Direct leadership of Marathon Tankerman including their development. Provides guidance to less experienced Marine and third party Tankerman company personnel including evening/weekend on-call duty as assigned.
  • Partners with Vessel Operations and Maintenance to improve the mechanical reliability and preventive maintenance programs for barge operations.
  • Supports vessel and barge operations including loading and unloading operations during transfers.
  • Collaborates with Marathon Terminals, Refineries and third party Tankermen to support training and development of non-Marine Tankerman personnel to ensure safe and reliable barge transfer operations.
  • Responsible for procuring, vetting, approval of and dispatching of third-party tankerman companies for MPC Marine Transportation.
  • Provides subject matter expertise to shoreside personnel regarding Marine tankering operations and resource scheduling.
  • Perform routine inspections on barges to ensure personnel are following procedures and safe working practices as well as ensuring that loading and offloading equipment is being properly maintained.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid driver’s license and a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card are required.
  • A Merchant Mariner Credential with a Tankerman-PIC (Barge) Dangerous Liquids endorsement issued by the United States Coast Guard is required.
  • Valid medical certificate from the United States Coast Guard is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of barge tankering operations experience including marine barge loading and discharging operations is required.
