Penguin Random House Publisher Services is seeking a Managing Editor to join our team servicing our client Kodansha Comics, home to award-winning and bestselling series such as Attack on Titan, Sailor Moon, and AKIRA. The successful candidate will have proven project management skills, including the ability to keep a score of titles at different stages of the editorial process organized and in motion, and a strong communication toolbox to ensure freelancers and editors hit schedule milestones. A passion for manga/anime, comics, and/or Japanese culture is a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, hire, and manage freelance editors, translators, and proofreaders, alongside evaluating freelancer output, negotiating fees, and reviewing invoices.
- Request books, art files, and other assets from licensors as necessary to produce English editions, and manage subsequent receipt of files.
- Work closely with other PRHPS staff to develop new or improved workflows and procedures.
- Enter and maintain key metadata for all titles in PRH databases, and run weekly production meetings.
- Set and enforce editorial production deadlines, working closely with both in-house staff and freelancers.
- Manage approvals, rate requests, and queries with the clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Draft, track, and manage seasonal publishing schedules.
Requirements:
- Familiarity with FileMaker, SAP, InDesign and/or other project management software preferred.
- Proven ability to build relationships with a professional demeanor, be a reliable point of contact, and manage the tasks and schedules of others.
- At least 3-4 years of managing editorial experience or project management experience in an adjacent field.
- Proficiency at Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams).
- Proven ability to meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality amid juggling multiple projects.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
The salary range for this position is $70,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
