Managing Director - ESG & Sustainability
Qualifications:
- Significant knowledge of important ESG developments, in the field of sustainability regulations, reporting frameworks and standards as well as themes such as net zero, circularity and/or sustainable supply chains;
- 12+ years of experience in Big 4/public accounting, national consulting firm, and/or corporate sustainability leadership role
- Demonstrated experience with supervising and managing (large-scale) ESG & sustainability initiatives
- 5+ years of ESG/Sustainability experience, including experience with ESG reporting
- Significant experience and/or responsibility for ESG/Sustainability reporting, ESG business partnering, compliance reporting (e.g. CSRD, SFDR, SEC, etc.)
- Subject matter expertise in ESG-related standards and frameworks including GHG Protocol, ISSB/SASB, GRI, and TCFD
- Sustainability certification (e.g., GRI or SASB's Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting credential a plus) or certified public accountant (CPA) with relevant sustainability experience
What you’ll do:As a Managing Director and leader within our ESG & Sustainability practice, you play a central role in ensuring excellent execution across our ESG & sustainability engagements. You will serve as a local leadership presence to perpetuate the Embark culture in every aspect of the business. We look to you to provide expertise for the practice and guide Embark to pursue growth opportunities specific to our ESG & sustainability services. You will allocate your time across key areas of responsibility, with a focus on delivering exceptional client work while also driving growth and supporting our people. You can expect to spend approximately 40% of your time on execution (billable hours), 40% on business development, and 20% on people and support initiatives.
Execution:
- Perform post engagement quality review & wrap-up with client
- Lead client engagements and review all client deliverables
- Serve as subject matter expert contributing to firm’s thought leadership on ESG & sustainability matters
- Manage engagement economics, including A/R balance and credits
- Ultimate responsibility for service delivery and exceeding client expectations on our ESG & sustainability engagements
- Responsible for development of execution team members, including providing informal and formal feedback
Business Development:
- Assist with budgeting and scoping ESG & sustainability projects
- Liaise with Managing Directors in other practice and service lines to identify new ESG & sustainability opportunities at current clients
- Connect regularly with your network to identify new opportunities, partnering with Business Development to help close new deals.
- Be knowledgeable of our firm’s other service offerings and related SME’s
- Bring in other relevant SMEs based on other opportunities identified at the client or during scoping
People & Support:
- Identify consultant skill set gaps and create development opportunities to address
- Perform technical & culture interviews for ESG & sustainability practice candidates
- Be a culture builder
- Provide ongoing coaching & development to our consultants in the ESG & sustainability practice
