Job Duties

Virginia Tax is seeking a Mail Operations Specialists for its Tax Processing Operation, Mail Operation Unit. Tax Processing Operations manages the processing of over 3 million paper tax returns, check payments, and correspondence. The Mail Operations Specialists is responsible for mail opening, extraction, inspection, sorting, quality review, and the front-end processing of most payments. Training is provided on the various types of mail equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Sorting inbound mail from the post office• Operation of an X-ray machine

  • Operation of mail slitters to open envelopes for manual extraction
  • Scan certified mail into an Excel spreadsheet
  • Operation of automated mail opening and extraction equipment to prepare payments for
remittance processing
  • Screen checks and money orders
  • Balance multiple payment transactions
  • Manually extract tax returns and payments
  • Registering work using tracking software to properly assign barcodes with accurate
volumes, job details, and mail received dates
This position does not provide telework options. It is located at our Westmoreland office in Richmond.
The anticipated salary for this position is up to $34,800.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working in a production environment that requires fast turnaround
  • Demonstrated ability to use automated mail extraction equipment and sort envelope
content
  • Experience working independently and making judgments as to the correct action to
take
  • Ability to follow written procedures and instructions
  • Experience handling/processing check payments
  • Ability to follow written procedures and instructions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating Agissar mail opening equipment
