Low Latency Linux Engineer

Location : Dallas, TX

This is a hybrid role, based in G-Research’s office in Dallas.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Low Latency Linux Engineer with a background in systems administration, automation and tuning in Linux systems to join our Low Latency Linux team.

The Low Latency Linux team sits within the Low Latency Engineering Function within G-Research. The function is responsible for developing and supporting the low-latency and ultra-low latency systems that are deployed as part of a global platform.

The scale of our deployment, performance and the reliability requirements of our platform means we rely on a highly standardised environment, which is built completely from code.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

• Working with development teams to enable the group to make system latency improvements and ensuring changes are recorded in code
• Maintaining high-performance Low Latency Linux machines deployed globally
• Participating in the team’s support and on-call rota (operational work accounts for approximately 35-40% of work load)
• Developing the Infrastructure as Code (IaC) code base

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• In-depth understanding of Linux
• A proven track record of automation (Ansible or equivalent)
• Good knowledge of networking fundamentals
• The ability to express Linux system configuration in well written, testable, modular and extensible code (Python)
• Understand kernel system calls
• Experience profiling system performance, using kernel by-pass technology and/or FPGA a plus

Financial experience is beneficial but not essential. If you have a non-financial background, we’d very much like to hear from you.
