Job Description

Title: Logistics Operations Manager


:

Food Connect is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the gaps in our food system to build healthier communities. We are passionate about leveraging technology and existing community efforts to bring about a more thoughtful, sustainable, and connected food system. There are amazing initiatives happening all over the world, but so much momentum is lost when there is no easy way to connect and collaborate in real-time. We are building solutions to lower barriers and increase efficiencies in food distribution and collaboration to drive better health outcomes for communities and individuals.


The Logistics Operations Manager position is responsible for leading two key areas listed below. This position is a remote position with occasional in-person key meetings that will be determined by management.



1: Actively manage daily logistics:


  • Supervise the performance and professional growth of the Dispatch Operations Manager.
  • Analyze and achieve daily KPI metrics, including responsiveness, turnaround time, and others.
  • Act as a key point of escalation for logistics issues and troubleshooting to render timely solutions for key stakeholders.
  • Work with our Regional Directors and Dispatch Operation Manager to ensure a seamless experience for our program partners, donors, recipients, and ICs.
  • Write and execute all new contracts and contract renewals for ICs and third-party vendors.
  • Partner with ICs and third-party vendors to provide transportation coverage in all regions.
  • Lead new driver recruitment processes with ICs and third-party vendors to support program growth goals in each region.
  • Support the dispatching team in each region by effectively managing all drivers to perform in alignment with Food Connect’s values, operational goals, and strategic plans.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Directors to support their operations and logistics needs, issues, and regional growth strategies.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with partners, donors, recipients, and drivers.
  • Regularly analyze routes to ensure route optimization that maximizes delivery schedules and driver timeliness in each region.
  • Develop expertise in all internal and external software utilized to manage daily operations and logistics.
  • Work with transportation partners to establish stable, steady, consistent service delivery and accountability against mutually agreed upon SLAs.
  • Oversee driver invoicing, billing, and payment schedules for all ICs and third-party vendors.
  • Utilize reports, analyze information, and monitor trends to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Problem-solve and exercise judgment to make modifications to deliveries to ensure the maximum number of successful and timely deliveries.
  • Ensure communication, both written and verbal is consistently strong across all programs with all internal and external stakeholders.

2: Drive process development and improvements:


  • Create and manage KPIs with all ICs and third-party vendors.
  • Review existing processes to find improvement areas and implement solutions.
  • Explore and incorporate automation features and tools to enhance operations and logistics processes.
  • Track transportation expenses in each region and forecast annual transportation budget.
  • Write and maintain standard operating procedures and other documentation for logistics team, ICs, and third-party vendors.
  • Champion and implement new logistics processes focused on continuous improvement.
  • Develop and manage driver orientation, training, and onboarding processes to maximize retention.
  • Test technologies to provide feedback to enhance user experience.

Candidate Qualifications and Traits:


  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Experience managing complex projects and multiple work streams
  • Must have a personal laptop with a stable broadband connection
  • Strong desire to provide high-quality customer service
  • Proven track record and ability to multitask
  • Self-starter with strong reasoning and communication skills and comfort with ambiguity
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • 5+ years of experience with logistics, transportation, or related field planning
  • 2+ years experience with ICs/3pl vendor management
  • A people person who is passionate about making a difference.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Able to keep many projects moving forward concurrently

Workdays and times:

Monday - Friday from 10am – 6pm EST



Compensation:

Salary $55,000-$65,000 per year based on experience.
