This position, Litigation & Investigations Counsel, will be responsible for managing a variety of litigation and investigation matters, claims, and disputes on behalf of Medtronic, including complex commercial, product liability, employment, tax, shareholder, employment, trade secret, and False Claims Act litigation. Litigation Counsel may also direct privileged internal investigations or risk assessments.
Litigation Counsel will develop strategy for successful outcomes and manage litigation and investigations to strategic objectives within budget; hire, supervise, and work closely with outside counsel; provide oversight to in-house paralegals; engage in and drive early evaluation and resolution of claims; and provide legal advice and counsel to business units on issues related to risk assessment and litigation risk avoidance. This position will report to the Legal Director, Litigation and Investigations.

A Day in the Life
- Achieve resolution of litigation on appropriate and favorable terms
- Hire, supervise and manage outside counsel
- Provide day-to-day work direction and feedback to paralegal and administrative support personnel
- Direct privileged risk assessments, internal investigations or reviews involving litigation, compliance or regulatory issues
- Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Evaluate and supervise litigation involving various Medtronic operating units
- Develop and manage budgets for efficient and effective management of cases
- Consult and collaborate with company strategic business counsel on issues relating to litigation strategy, exposure and risk
- 5+ years of litigation experience to include complex civil litigation experience
- Juris Doctor from nationally recognized Law School
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing under the Bar of at least one state
- Experience managing or directing, or serving as outside counsel
- Capable of inspiring trust and confidence of clients, including senior management
- Strong experience and skill with management of e-data and e-discovery issues
- Flexibility, adaptability, responsiveness and collegiality
- Analytical risk identification, evaluation and management skills
- Integrity and strong ethical center
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate across a complex organization
- Ability to establish credibility and develop strong working relationships with clients
- Experience participating in depositions, mediations, and court proceedings, including trials
- A diverse background and set of experiences
- Product liability and commercial litigation experience
- Exceptional advocacy and negotiating skills
- Superior common sense and judgment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
- Experience with direct client contact providing strategic litigation and risk management advice
- Experience managing collection and production of documents and electronic records in response to legal process
- Medical background or knowledge
- Proven ability to litigate as part of a large, multidisciplinary team
