About the Team
The Privacy team manages Workday's global privacy program and supports Workmates across the organization to ensure Workday is handling personal data in ways that are consistent with privacy requirements and our core values.
About the Role
Workday’s Privacy Team is looking for a highly motivated attorney to support Workday's growing cross-functional privacy programs. The ideal candidate is a confident self-starter who can take on difficult problems, devise practical solutions, build strong relationships, and prioritize and handle multiple tasks and responsibilities with agility and efficiency.
Strong candidates will have a firm understanding of global privacy laws (GDPR, ePrivacy Directive, CCPA, CASL, etc.) and will have experience advising on a variety of general privacy issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Identify privacy risks and implement practical mitigation strategies
  • Advise on requirements for use of new technologies
  • Develop programs and guidance to assist with onboarding of key suppliers
  • Develop or mature privacy processes and procedures
  • Support internal processes and policies related to privacy and data protection
  • Draft clear and concise privacy statements and other public facing notices
  • Draft and review internal privacy collateral and training materials to help raise privacy awareness across the organization
  • Build relationships with numerous internal stakeholders to understand strategic needs and goals of the business
About You
Basic Qualifications
  • Solid understanding of data protection laws and regulations in the U.S. and globally, including California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and ePrivacy Directive
  • J.D. Degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least 1 state bar
  • 3+ years of national law firm or in-house experience, with a focus on privacy law
Other Qualifications
  • Experience developing, maturing, implementing, or maintaining processes
  • Willing to take on new challenges and learn new technologies
  • Critical thinker and problem solver with a solutions based approach
  • IAPP CIPP Certification such as CIPP/E
  • Experience with broader and emerging privacy laws, including laws in Asia is also a plus
  • Experience working with Privacy, Information Security, Compliance, Audit, and/or Risk Management teams
  • Familiarity with technology, with a focus on cloud computing, SaaS, cloud computing, enterprise software or social network environment.
  • Excellent judgment and sense of humor.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating data processing agreements
  • Experience fulfilling data subject access requests including scoping and redaction

The base pay range for the primary location of this job is listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
